recursive acronym

Isn't this a recursive acronym? Maybe the article should mention that. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 23:54, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

idk.... i just assume any 3-4 letter unix program name is a recursive acronym. if it isnt i make one up69.125.110.223 (talk) 14:55, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rename

Since Unix is case sensitive the correct name is "joe" (lower case) and the article should be called the name of the file to be consistent with other articles on Unix tools. --MarsRover (talk) 00:10, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with that is that on Mediawiki joe equals Joe, and that in turn is an existing disambiguation page that takes precedence. I agree that the most common name is all-lowercase joe, but using the full name for the title seems like the best available compromise. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 20:55, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose an alternative could be something like Joe (text editor) but I currently have no strong opinion one way or the other. --Tothwolf (talk) 00:23, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How about joe (text editor). Just put {{lowercase|title=joe (text editor)}} at the top of the article to lowercase the word. --MarsRover (talk) 04:12, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With the {{lowercase}} template you don't even have to specify any parameters. It actually just ignores any parameters you pass. --Tothwolf (talk) 05:32, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We already have joe (text editor) as an incoming redirect. Using it as the main title doesn't make sense to me - it would be analogous to moving Dwight D. Eisenhower to Eisenhower (U.S. President) - logical at first, but really a kludge - the full name is appropriate for the encyclopedia. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:39, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Joe's Own Editor works for me – just throwing the other one out there since it got brought up :)
