The Shallows (formerly In the Deep), is an upcoming American survival horror thriller film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Anthony Jaswinski. The film stars Blake Lively and Óscar Jaenada. Principal photography began on October 28, 2015 in New South Wales, Australia. The film is scheduled to be released on June 29, 2016 by Columbia Pictures.
Plot
A young pro surfer named Nancy Adams (Blake Lively), a full-time student at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, is surfing at a secluded beach called "Paradise" when she becomes stranded on a giant rock 200 yards away from shore after an enormous great white shark attacks her. Now she has to find a way to get safely back to shore without getting attacked by the shark again, proving the ultimate contest of wills.

Production
Initially Louis Leterrier was to direct, although he dropped out in June 2015,[5][6] leading to Jaume Collet-Serra being considered for the job.[7] Blake Lively joined the cast in August 2015.[1] That same month the film's title was changed from In The Deep to The Shallows,[8] and it was announced that filming would begin in November in Gold Coast, Queensland Australia.[8]
Filming
Principal photography on the film began on October 28, 2015 in New South Wales, Australia.[9][8] Filming also took place at the Lord Howe Island.[10][11]
Release
The Shallows was scheduled to be released on Friday June 24, 2016 by Columbia Pictures.[12] On April 28, 2016, it was pushed back to June 29, 2016.[citation needed]
