It reached its goal on the 128th day of 2016, beating Universal Pictures' record of reaching the goal at the 165th day of 2015.[2] The studio also became the first to release four films within a single franchise — the Marvel Cinematic Universe — that each grossed over $1 billion, with Captain America: Civil War joining 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2012's The Avengers and 2013's Iron Man 3. The Marvel Cinematic Universe also became the first franchise to gross more than $10 billion.

- Zootopia grossed $233.9 million worldwide in its opening weekend to break the record for biggest worldwide opening for an animated film, surpassing Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ($218.4 million on July 3–5, 2009) and becoming just the second animated film to gross more than $200 million in its opening weekend. The film also became the first animated movie, the seventh American-made movie, and the 19th movie overall to gross more than ¥1 billion at the Chinese box office (amassing ¥1.53 billion to become the third highest-grossing American-made film after Furious 7 and Transformers: Age of Extinction).
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice became the biggest worldwide opening weekend ever for a superhero film with $422.5 million, surpassing Marvel's The Avengers.
- Kung Fu Panda 3 became the second animated movie, the eighth American-made movie, and the 20th movie overall to gross more than ¥1 billion at the Chinese box office, and also went on to become the highest-earning animated film ever in India.
