Thanks for the welcome.
Thaks for saying hello! I'm quickly learning all the ins and outs of contributing, mostly making minor edits here and there as I come across them. Good to hear a greeting. I actually got stumped recently: I created a page for an old video game, Rome: Pathway to Power. I've inserted an infobox, except that it doesn't look particularly infoboxy. I've checked and double-checked everything, and it all looks good to me, and yet: no infobox. Any idea why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Porlob (talk • contribs)

Dear Sir, I see that you objected to my page about my friend Joep Gommers (Joep_Gommers), could you please post your comments so i can revise my story about him. It's difficult to say how to improve if you don't mention it. He really is of great value for his community and especially Hackerdom, thanks for the reaction. Reply to me at my talk page is fine. Toronto Star
I am the principal author of the Toronto Star article. After many weeks, we finally reached a consensus -- only to be confronted with some reversions that undid much of the hard work. I see you have reverted (re-reverted?) some of these. I have completed the task, with a few more minor edits. Thanks for any assiatance you can offer in seeing this through.

Frank Coldheart
Hello Yanksox,
I have noticed that you have deleted the article I have just posted on Frank Coldheart. I believe this young author will be soon recognised by most people as I have personally read his book and can confirm that there is substance. My name is Paul Richardson and I was Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University in the UK until 2004. I understand that the article does not meet your criteria, however, I believe that it makes some sense to inform people about authors that are not necessarily big at the time of entering Wikipedia.
I would appreciate your view.
Regards
Frank Coldheart
I accept that this author is still unknown to the big audience, however, I don't understand why you classify the article as nonsensical. I can rephrase the article if you can give me more specific guidance as to the criteria required.
Thanks
What is your definition of nonsense? I am a bit baffled, and it is not about getting Frank known but about spreading information that is valuable for Wikipedian readers

Hi, since you locked up the article, do you think you can pay a trip to the talk page and help mediate with us. Francistyers has done a good job and helped us alot. He essentially said it was alrite to use the Sumgait Tragedy book which the article hinges itself on so long as it doesn't give undue weight upon it. However, the lack of a 3rd party makes the arguments useless since both of us are locked in one position. I listed some argument points on the bottom half of the article which give enough credence to use the witnesses' book since most of the information cited in the book is backed up by a plethora of evidence (although much of that evidence is not enough to explain things in depth which, hence, require the use of the book which gives a much more detailed account of the event) that even other "neutral" books use as sources.--MarshallBagramyan 06:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- I was hoping perhaps you can personally participate on the article's talk page or perhaps advise a fellow friend who can take part in the discussions as a 3rd party. Thank you.--MarshallBagramyan 17:49, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry Yankee for continously posting this, but your participation as 3rd party will be highly valued in the article and I hope you can take some time to help mediate between us since virtually no progress is being made and talks are being stalled due to the fact that the opposing side is presenting confusing, contradictory, and incoherent claims against the article's content. Thank you. --MarshallBagramyan 17:50, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: message concerning IP Vandalism on WP:AN
Thanks for that help, Yanksox, concerning the 2 IP's I posted there. The reason I skipped t1 t2 and t3, was that the stuff was quite offensive, my opinion only, and it was obvious they were out to vandalise. Deletion of image
Dear Yanksox,
I hope you are willing to help me, or at least give some advice. Some time ago you semi-protected File:Hassan Nasrallah Hezbollah.jpeg, since an anon user tagged it as unlicensed and refused to raise his concerns on the talk page. I assume you saw the talk page, where several editors agreed that the image was within the fair use license. Some days later I realized suddenly that the image had been deleted. No concerns had been raised at its talk page. As you can see at User_talk:Angr#Unilateral_deletion_of_licensed_image I contacted the administrator who deleted the pic. He found personally that the pic didnt meet the fair use criteria (even though they specificaly state that billboards are coveres), and he didnt bother to raise the concerns on the talk page or list the picture for deletion so it could be contested. Honestly, such unilateral deletions are not fruitful for creating an atmosphere of willingness to contribute. So I would like to get you advice on what to do. Should I just stop uploading pics, since any administrator unilaterally can delete it without reasoining? Or can the the pic be restored, and thus be subject for it salleged copyvio? Sorry to sraw you into this. But I sincerely hope that you understand the frustrations such unilateral actions create, and help me solve the issue. Thank you. Bertilvidet 21:09, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Closing Move Requests
I see you're getting around to some of the move requests. However, I would request that when you close a move request you remove the {{move}} template from the relevant talk pages. It would also be a good idea to somehow close off the survey section. That can easily be done by doing something like...
{{subst:polltop}} '''result''', with explanatory reason if necessary. ~~~~ ==Move Request== ===Survey=== blah blah ===Discussion=== blah blah {{subst:pollbottom}}
That puts a wonderful green box around the section (similar to the grey box around the above code). Sorry if you actually knew this already; carry on with clearing the backlog. -- tariqabjotu 15:24, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I came here to advise you to do the same thing. Otherwise, people keep adding their opinion to the survey even though the matter is done with. I also usually remove extraneous stuff from it before I close it, e.g. the instructions about how to make a vote under "Survey" and the "Discussion" section if it is empty. If the only comment is by one person, I usually forgo the poll templates and just reduce the section it to his single comment with a "Done. --Centrx sig" from me, so it doesn't look like a poll anymore anyway. But that's just me. —Centrx→talk • 16:18, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
The original barnstar
Thanks very much indeed for this, which I certainly consider an honour (or maybe an honor) coming from such a commendable editor and admin. You obviously noticed that I didn't have the original one! If you have any time (unlikely) you might like to check out Talk:Michael_Ignatieff, where I have trying out a method of dispute resolution to stop endless rambling conversations by getting editors to focus on the precise points in question, each with a separate debate, i.e. a structured approach. I think talk page hell is a major problem which needs addressing. Tyrenius 20:40, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi Yanksox. I redirected back your page move to this page. There is an unresolved debate between Striver and I which has not been resolved. It's about how to transliterate Arabic properly, and Striver has basically made up his own version, where a plethora of standards exist, and an MOS exists for wikipedia on the subject. There have been few contributors to the debate and now it's at a standstill, with no real conclusion. I restored the page title to a version without errors.
See Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Islam-related articles)/names and Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Arabic) for more of the debate. Cuñado - Talk 00:59, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Emmalina AFD closing comments
Having voted in the Emmalina AFD, I read with interest your comments in regards to the "Notability vs Privacy" debate. I was just wondering if you would have any idea where in Wikipedia one could go and discuss this issue? From what I've seen there are several policies and articles that engage in this discussion but I was wondering if there was one centralized talk page or such, rather than a number of fragmented areas. I'm interested to read what others think about this debate, so if you do know of such a place, it would be greatly appreciated. Regards, --Auger Martel 09:56, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Yanksox! The joke on my user page is currently being discussed. It would be nice of you to weigh in on this page instead of just deleting material from someone else's User Page without saying why you think it's "unreasonable."--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 12:30, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't want to upset all of you admins, so I will defer to your authroity as to what may or may not be posted on my user page, but I think you need to lighten up and try to discern more intelligently the difference between boneheaded, random insults and legitimate and quasi-legitimate threats to harm others.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 15:57, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

GuerrillaFilm block
Yanksox,
I posted my idea for a civil discussion on Talk:Snakes on a Plane yesterday, and you're the only one who responded, so I think we should take charge and separate these people until they can calm down. I think that Guerrillafilm in particular needs to be blocked, if you look at his contributions in the last day, you can see that he is dominating the discussion so much that no one can get anything done. There may be some other users who need a time-out as well, but let's see what things are like without Guerrillafilm first. I have never asked an admin to block another user before. Usually, I stay out of drama like this, but the fact that the page isn't anywhere close to being unblocked is starting to bug me. Let me know what you think on my talk page. Thanks.
