On 8 June 2016, two men opened fire on several businesses in the Sarona Market of Tel Aviv, killing four people and injuring eighteen others.
Incident
On 8 June 2016 at about 21:00, two gunmen opened fire at the Sarona Market in Tel Aviv, killing three and injuring nineteen others,[2][3] including four in critical condition.[4] A fourth person died in hospital.[5]
The suspects entered the market, ordered a dessert, and sat for fifteen minutes prior to opening fire.[6] One shooter was located inside the market at the time of the shooting, while another was located on a street just outside.[7]
Perpetrators
The gunmen were dressed as ultra-orthodox Jews.[8] Both attackers were neutralized by police.[9] One attacker was taken to Ichilov Hospital in serious condition, from injuries suffered from gun fire.[10]
The suspects, both 21,[11] in the attack have been arrested and were relatives from Yatta near Hebron.[12] One of them was shot and treated in Ichilov hospital and the other was arrested.[13] Both suspects were in Israel without permits and had not been seen for several days prior to the attack.[14] The two suspects are cousins and may have used a homemade machine gun to carry out the attack.[15]
Israeli police are searching for a possible third suspect who is believed to have fled the scene.[15]
Hamas has praised the attack, releasing a cartoon depicting the attack as a Ramadan treat and suggested more attacks are likely to occur during Ramadan.[16]
Victims
A four-year-old girl was reported to be one of the deceased victims.[15]
