KSKY
KSKY is an AM radio station in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex with a talk format which generally favors views that are politically, culturally, and economically conservative or libertarian. KSKY broadcasts on 660 kHz in AM Stereo.
Program Schedule
"This Morning" and "Morning in America"
For the majority of KSKY listeners, the broadcast day (on a weekday) begins very early in the morning (at 4 a.m.) with the two nationally syndicated radio programs: the Wall Street Journal This Morning program,[1] and then (from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m.) by former Reagan Education Secretary Bill Bennett's program "Morning in America." "The Mike Gallager Show"
From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., KSKY features a live, local radio show (which is also nationally syndicated in other major markets over the course of the day): the Mike Gallager Show. According to Talkers Magazine, Mike Gallager is "the 6th most listened-to radio talk show host in the country" with approximately "3.75 million weekly listeners" in several of America's largest cities including: Los Angeles, Chicago, the Dallas and Fort Worth area, Boston, Houston, and Philadelphia. Gallager covers both issues of local importance to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area (like the recent Dallas restraunt smoking ban), as well as issues of national or international importance (like federal spending or the war in Iraq).
"The Laura Ingraham Show"
Gallager is followed by another nationally syndicated talk show: the Laura Ingraham Show (from 9 a.m. to 12 noon). Ingraham's talk show, according to the fall, 2005 issue of Talkers Magazine, has the fifth largest audience among nationally heard talk show hosts. Ingraham often begins her show with the tag-line, "Your healthy radio addiction." Ingraham describes herself as "breaking stereotypes" by being a conservative female amongst so many conservative males in the world of radio talk. She is also a nationally-sought speaker and the author of several books on political topics.
"The Dennis Prager Show"
Ingraham is followed by the nationally syndicated Dennis Prager Show (from 12 noon to 2 p.m.). Prager describes himself as an advocate of Judeo-Christian values and other conservative values. Although often thought of as being a political conservative, Prager describes himself, politically, as a "passionate centrist" and sometimes as a "JFK liberal." Prager considers himself to be a critic of both contemporary liberalism and the Democratic Party. Finally, Prager describes himself as a Jew with a moral compass. [4]
"The Michael Medved Show"
Prager's show is followed by a self-described politically conservative Orthodox Jew who is also nationally syndicated: the Michael Medved Show (from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.). The show reaches more than 2 million listeners in 140 markets, and, as with others in the talk radio format, Medved does comment of political issues--however, Medved describes his show as being at the "intersection of politics and pop culture." Also, since Medved is a movie critic (he has reviewed movies for CNN, the New York Post, and the PBS show "Sneak Previews"), he also gives movie reviews on his show and then (sometimes) offers social or political commentary about the content of the movie.
"The Savage Nation"
Medved is followed by the nationally syndicated Michael Savage who hosts The Savage Nation (from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.). The Savage Nation is estimated to reach over eight million listeners on 377 stations; it ranks third nationwide behind Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Savage describes himself as being an "independent-minded individualist," and says he "fits no stereotype," however Savage also describes himself as "a compassionate conservative" who "attacks big government and liberal media bias," but speaks favorably of environmental protection and animal rights. "The Hugh Hewitt Show"
Following Savage, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., is the nationally syndicated Hugh Hewitt Show. Hewitt, a professor of law at Chapman University Law School, has an unusual feature in his radio show: his group of "Smart Guys." Hewitt has said that having these "Smart Guys" available for his show helps to "add a perspective unavailable on other shows." [6]
"The Dave Ramsey Show"
Finally, from 11 p.m. to 12 midnight, KSKY broadcasts 1 hour (of the 3 hour) nationally syndicated Dave Ramsey Show. Ramsey's radio program (which is heard on over 275 stations throughout the United States) is different from the other shows in the KSKY line-up. Regarding his radio show, Ramsey says the focus is, "life, love, and relationships, and how they happen to revolve around money." Some of Ramsey's favorite topics include: personal finance, credit repair, investments and retirement planning, and small business financial issues (among other topics). Ramsey's show bills itself has having a weekly radio audience of "over 2 million listeners." [7]
Weekend Programing
Weekend programing at KSKY includes some original local programing on non-political topics (like gardening with "The Dirt Doctor" Howard Garrett), some nationally syndicated shows on non-political topics (like health or real estate), and religious programing on Sunday (such as "Love Worth Finding" with the Reverend Adrian Rogers).
