Jacques Jarrige, (born 1962, Paris, France) is a sculptor and furniture designer actively working in Paris exhibiting in galleries and museums worldwide.
His work is known for dynamic fluid lines and naturalistic forms often working in manmade wood products (Medium-density fibreboard and Plywood) and common metals.
Influenced by the work of Henry Moore, Jean Arp, Alexandre Noll, and George Nakashima Jacques Jarrige's work embodies the idea of creating a "personal gesture" expressed directly in materials usually used for utilitarian purposes.[1]
His works have been acquired by museums across the globe, including the Mobilier National and the Musée des Beaux Arts d'Orléans amongst others.
Career
Having studied as an architect at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
His early work showed at the influential Galerie En Attendant les Barbares where his early furniture design work was exhibited alongside more traditional artworks.
This mixing of ideas about the functionality of objects and a purely artistic practice lead to a career that has spanned both commercial furniture design and artistic endeavors.
