On 1 July 2016 at 8;00 a.m., a Hsiung Feng III missile was accidentally launched from the Republic of China Navy boat from water off Kaohsiung towards Penghu which hit a fishing boat, killing one person and injuring three.[1][2]
Chronology
The Chin Chiang patrol ship was undergoing training exercise on Friday morning. The missile was accidentally launched at 8:00 a.m. during an inspection at the navy base in Kaohsiung. The missile cruised around 75 km for two minutes towards Mainland China before hitting the Taiwanese fishing boat. The missile however did not cross the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which separated Taiwan and Mainland China.[3]
