Chadalavada Anandha Sundhararaman Bhavani Devi who is widely known as Bhavani Devi (born August 27, 1993) is a Indian fencer.
C A Bhavani Devi Started her sports career on 2003 along with other sports in her school, she did her schooling at Muruga Dhanushkodi girls higher secondary, Chennai. In 2004 fencing she was introduced at school level in Tamil Nadu.Initially, she chose fencing to get away from classes in school. But, when when she lost her first competition, she was determined to win,[1] At class 10 when Sagar Lagu, one of the best coaches in India, spoke to her about joining his centre, SAI Centre in Thalasseri (Kerala), She was delighted and after finishing Class 10, she moved to SAI and completed schooling and also did BBA there. At the age of 14 she appeared at her first international tournament in Turkey, where she got black card for being late by three minutes, by 2010 at Asian championship in philipines she bagged Bronze medal.[2] After the 2010 Asian Games, the fencers were not funded for national or international competitions. “I was upset for not being able to compete,[3] but it was her mother who who has been supporting her fencing career, She worked hard to find sponsors and gather funds from the government for Bhavani to participate in international tournaments. In 2014 Asian Championship under 23 category in philippines she bagged Silver medal, 16 of them represented from India in that event but bhavani was the only one to return with a medal, Bhavani made India proud that her medal is the Indian's first medal at asian championship under 23 category.[4] After her successful 2014 asian championship Tamil Nadu Chief Minister "Jayalalithaa" had given Bhavani Devi Rs three lakh as financial aid for training in the US last October. She was also given Rs two lakh reward after she won a bronze in Belgium.[5] In 2015 Go sports foundation selected 15 athletes for Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Programme, one of 15 member bhavani devi also got selected, she is happy to be part of it under which she would receive financial help and support staff including psychologist and nutritionist.[6] Bhavani did well in the Viking Cup 2016 Icelandic International Sabre Tournaments, held at Reykjavik and finished fifth overall, but sad part is she miss out being be part of the Indian team at Rio in 2016, She isn't disappointed about not being on the plane to the Brazilian capital but she is determined to make it to the 2020 Games.[7] [8]
