Dominic Mark Roma (born 29 November 1985) is an English footballer who is Player/Manager of National League North side Gainsborough Trinity.

He has played in the Football League for both Sheffield United and Boston United. He has also played for Hinckley United, Tamworth, Alfreton Town and Harrogate Town. Roma is highly regarded in Semi professional football for being a right back of high quality and consistency.

Playing career

Sheffield United

Born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Roma started his professional football career in 2004 with his local side Sheffield United, after working his way through the club's youth team.

During his time with the Blades, Roma's 1 appearance came against Chengdu Blades. Roma made numerous appearances for the reserve A team, including games against Newcastle United, Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers. Roma was also called up for England at youth level and has represented England at under 18 and 19 level. In total he gained 8 caps.

On 18 May 2007, Roma was released by Sheffield United along with Colin Marrison, Kyle McFadzean, Ryan Gyaki, James Ashmore and Sharu Naraji.[1]

Boston United

On 18 February 2005, Roma was sent out on a one-month loan to Football League Two side Boston United to gain first team experience,[2] where he made two appearances but failed to score.

Tamworth

Roma also spent three months on loan in the Football Conference with Staffordshire club Tamworth. During his time with The Lambs, Roma started all 15 games, however was unable to find the back of the net. Following his release from Sheffield United, Roma joined Tamworth for pre season training after recovering from a serious knee injury which he sustained whilst at Sheffield United. [3]

Hinckley United

After seemingly failing to agree terms with Tamworth, it was confirmed that Roma had joined Hinckley United of the Conference North. At the end of the 2008–09 Roma was awarded the chairmans Player of the Season. Shortly after however he agreed to join Alfreton Town on a two-year contract after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee due to travel commitments.

Alfreton Town

After having an indifferent season at Alfreton Town and with a year still left on his contract Roma opted to move to Harrogate Town.

Harrogate Town

Roma joined Harrogate in search of regular football. This move paid off as Roma was the only player in the 2010–11 season to play every league and cup game for Harrogate showing his versatility playing half the season at right back and half the season at left back, Roma's consistent performances earned him the chairmans and managers Player of the Season.

Gainsborough Trinity

After having a successful season at Harrogate Town Dominic put pen to paper on a one-year deal at Harrogate Town's Conference North rivals Gainsborough Trinity for the 2011–2012 season. In May 2012 it was confirmed that Roma had agreed a new one-year contract to stay at Gainsborough Trinity for the 2012–2013 season. During the 2012–2013 season Roma has been ever present in the Trinity side playing in every single fixture for the club in the season showing off his reliability and dedication to the club. On 20 April 2013 Roma's consistent performances were rewarded with him being voted the Fans Player of the Season adding yet another Trophy to his name. In June 2013 it was confirmed Roma had agreed a new one-year contract to stay at Gainsborough Trinity for a third season. In June 2014 it was confirmed that Roma had signed a new 2-year contract at Gainsborough Trinity keeping him at the club until the end of the 2015-2016 season. Gainsborough Trinity manager Steve Housham confirmed that Roma was made club captain following the departure of Michael Leary.
