Paolo Petrocelli (15 October, 1984) is best known as a university professor, musicologist and co-founder of the Youth Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO. He is also founder and president of EMMA for Peace (Euro-Mediterranean Music Academy for Peace), an organization that brings together major institutions from around the world through music and a shared interest in global peace.
Academic career
Paolo Petrocelli is a graduate of University of Rome La Sapienza where he studied musicology and Middlesex University of London. He holds an MA in Violin Performance from the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia, and he specialized in the study of European music in the Twentieth Century and he is also a Yale University visiting fellow.[1] Currently, he is a Ph.D. Candidate in Economics, Marketing and Creativity at the IULM University of Milan.
Career
From 2008 to 2011, he served as a committee member for the Working Group Youth at the European Music Council. In 2011 he served as UNESCO Youth Delegate for Italy and in 2012 was nominated by the British Council to represent Italy in the Cultural Leadership International Programme 2011-2012.[2][3][4]
Petrocelli is the Founder and the president of EMMA for Peace (Euro-Mediterranean Music Academy).[5][6] He is a former member of the board of directors for Fondazione Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (Rome Opera House). He is a member of the board of directors at Fondazione Accademia Musicale Chigiana and a member of the board of directors at Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello.[7]
He is founder and former artistic director of The Spirit of British Music (a concert music series in Rome dedicated to British music) and former associate director at IMG Artists.[8]
In 2010, he published a book titled “The Resonance of a Small Voice: William Walton and the Violin Concerto in England between 1900 and 1940” (Cambridge Scholars Publishing).[9] He has also published several different essays on the music of Sir William Walton.[10]
During his appearance on TEDx in Rome (2015), Petrocelli observed the effectiveness of music, “a universally-spoken language that closes language barriers.” He discussed how music can provide favourable alterations in our daily lives, and be used as a tool to bring positive changes throughout the world.[11][12]
Paolo Petrocelli currently serves as a professor at LUISS Guido Carli University of Rome and IED Roma.[13]
He is also a director of the Master of Cultural Management at the Rome Business School[14] and visiting lecturer at Sole 24 Ore Business School.[15]
Personal life
Paolo was born in Rome, Italy. He attended the Liceo Classico Francesco Vivona high school in Rome. He still lives in Rome.
