Marc Mezvinsky
Marc Mezvinsky (born December 15, 1977) is an American investment banker, co-founder of the hedge fund Eaglevale Partners, and the husband of Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former U.S. Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton.[1]
Early life and education
Mezvinsky was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended a Conservative Jewish synagogue while growing up.[2] He is the son of Edward Mezvinsky and Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, both former Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives, now divorced.
Mezvinsky first met Chelsea Clinton as teenager at a 1993 Democratic political retreat in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He graduated from Stanford University in 2000, where he received a B.A in religious studies and philosophy. While a student at Stanford in 1997, he remained close friends with Clinton, and as she began looking at colleges he showed her around there. He later received an M.A from University of Oxford in politics, philosophy and economics. Mezvinsky began dating Clinton in 2005.[3]
Business career
Subsequent to his graduations, he worked for eight years as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs before leaving to join a private equity firm, but later quit. In 2011, he co-founded a Manhattan-based hedge fund firm, Eaglevale Partners, with two longtime partners, Bennett Grau and Mark Mallon.[1][4]
Personal life
In 2010, Mezvinsky married Chelsea Clinton in an interfaith ceremony in Rhinebeck, New York.[5] The senior Clintons and Mezvinskys were friends in the 1990s; their children met on a Renaissance Weekend retreat in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.[2] They first were reported to be a couple in 2005, and became engaged over Thanksgiving weekend in 2009.[6]
Following their wedding, the couple lived for three years in New York City's Gramercy Park neighborhood,[5] later purchasing a condominium in the NoMad area of Manhattan for $10.5 million.[7] Clinton and Mezvinsky have a daughter, Charlotte, who was born in September 2014,[8] and a son, Aidan, who was born in June 2016.[9][10] The family currently lives in the nearby Flatiron District.[11]
