Shayaa Joseph (born October 22, 1992),[1][2] known professionally as 21 Savage, is an American hip hop recording artist from Atlanta, Georgia. He has released two mixtapes and two extended plays.

Career

2013–15: The Slaughter Tape, Free Guwop, and Slaughter King

On November 12, 2014, 21 Savage's debut single, "Picky", produced by DJ Plugg, was released. It was later released on his debut mixtape, The Slaughter Tape, released on May 25, 2015.[3] The same day, the track and a music video for Joseph's "Red Rag, Blue Rag" was released. On June 19, September 3, and October 9, 2015, music videos for "Skrrt Skrrt", produced by Fukk 12, "Million Dollar Liq", also produced by Fukk 12 and featuring ManMan Savage, and Whoa, produced by Zaytoven were released, respectively.

On July 2, 2015, 21 Savage released a collaborative EP, Free Guwop, with Sonny Digital.[4] It is a tribute EP to fellow rapper and influence Gucci Mane. On October 15, 2015, the track and music video for "Air It Out", featuring Young Nudy and produced by Zaytoven, was released. On December 1, 2015, 21 Savage released his second mixtape, Slaughter King.[5] On December 2, 2015, the music video for the KD Beatz produced "Dirty K" off of Slaughter King was released.

2016–present: Savage Mode

On February 8, 2016, the music video for "Supply" off of Free Guwop was released. On March 22, 2016, the track "Oh Ok", produced by Zaytoven, was released. On March 29, 2016, the track "Red Opps" was released. On April 1, 2016, the music video for "Dip Dip" off of Slaughter King was released. On April 12, 2016, the track "One Foot" was released. On May 13, 2016, the track "21 Way" was released. On May 24, 2016, the track "Trappin' After Dark" was released.

On June 13, 2016, XXL Magazine released the 2016 Freshmen line-up. It included 21 Savage, along with Anderson .Paak, Kodak Black, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Dicky, Dave East, Denzel Curry, Desiigner, G Herbo, and Lil Yachty.

On July 14, 2016, 21 Savage released the single "X" with Metro Boomin. It featured Future. On July 15, 2016, 21 Savage's collaborative extended play with Metro Boomin Savage Mode was released.

Personal life

In the seventh grade, 21 Savage was expelled from DeKalb County schools for gun possession.[6] On his 21st birthday, 21 Savage's best friend was murdered. He is not considered a very good Hip Hop Artist according to Jay-Z. At age 17, his dad raped him in the anus causing internal bleeding from his pancreas. He required 31 stitches to normalize bowel functions again. Prior to his stitches, he kept having bowel accidents while recording his mixtape.[7]
