1986 United States House of Representatives elections
Appearance
The U.S. House election, 1986 was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1986 which occurred in the middle of President Ronald Reagan's second term. As in most midterm elections, the President's Republican Party lost seats, with the Democratic Party gaining a net of five seats and cementing its majority. These results were not as dramatic as those in the Senate, where the Republicans lost control of the chamber to the Democrats.
Notable freshmen included future Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.).
