Saw: Legacy is an upcoming American horror film directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, and written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger. It is the eighth installment in the Saw franchise.

Synopsis

Set six years after the events of the seventh film, Mark Hoffman is now the new Jigsaw Killer and carries out a new death game which will be bigger and deadlier than ever that the world will ever know in order to prove what the true late Jigsaw Killer wanted; the life is worth living and that every single person on Earth should appreciate every moment.

Development

Saw 3D was intended to be the final film in the Saw franchise,[4] with the film being split into two parts. However, Lionsgate Films only allowed the filmmakers to make one more film after Saw VI under-performed at the box office. According to Saw 3D writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, because of the change, "the big reveal of Dr. Gordon was a bit underserved ... Perhaps creating more questions than answers. There were several ideas we never quite figured out. But I don’t want to say what they were, because you never know what might happen in the future."[5]

In February 2016, it was reported that Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger will write the script.[3] In July 2016, it became known that Michael and Peter Spierig will direct the film. Saw: Legacy is currently slated for an October 27, 2017 release date.[1][6]
