Mustafa Abdel-Wadood (born March 5th, 1970) is an Egyptian businessperson and investor, living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He currently is a Board Member, Partner and Global Head of Private Equity at the Abraaj Group which is the leading private equity investor operating in the growth markets of Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. [1] The Abraaj Group (formerly known as Abraaj Capital) currently manages approximately US$ 9.0 billion across 20+ sector and country-specific Funds, encompassing private equity and real estate investments. Early life

Mustafa Abdel-Wadood was born in Cairo as the second of three siblings.

Career

Mustafa Abdel-Wadood started his career in 1992 at Orascom Group where he was a founding Board Member of Orascom Telecom and served as Director of Business Development. During his time at Orascom he was actively involved in supporting the build up of a pan regional telecoms business that eventually went public. Between 2000 and 2003 he worked as Managing Director for Sigma Capital. In 2004 he joined EFG-Hermes, where he was initially Head of Investment Banking and subsequently Chief Executive Officer for the UAE. Since 2006, he has been with The Abraaj Group, where he is a Board Member, partner and Global Head of Private Equity. [3] [4] [5]

Awards and nominations

Mustafa was selected as one of the "Global Leaders of Tomorrow" in 2002, and as a "Young Global Leader" in 2008 by the World Economic Forum. [6][7] In 2007, he was also awarded the "American University in Cairo Alumni Achievement Award". He has appeared in publications and on business TV channels and is a speaker on issues related to private equity, emerging markets, corporate governance, entrepreneurship, and the Middle East. Associations and Social engagement

He is a member of the Dubai Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization and was a founding member of the board of the Young Arab Leaders.[12] He is a board member of the UAE Chapter of Endeavor, a US based organization focusing on promoting and supporting Entrepreneurship.[13] He serves on the advisory board of the American University in Cairo School of Business as well as the Global Business Initiative of the Georgetown School of Business. [14] In 2007, he established the "Public School Abdel-Wadood Mustafa Scholarship" at the American University in Cairo, awarded to outstanding students from Egyptian public schools. [15]He is actively interested and engaged around issues of entrepreneurship, education and youth.
