Back into the fray...?

Hi, KOS! Been working some much smaller wikis as of late; this is just getting crazy with vandals. I'm adminning a few smaller projects like this one. Drop me an e-mail when you have a moment. Been doing a bit of anonymous RC patrolling...man, there are some real freaks and weirdos out there. Anyway, take care. You'll know who this is when you click the link. 74.62.6.84 01:46, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!! Yes I wrote you an email, it appears it was lost, how have you been? Really great that you stopped by! KOS | talk 01:56, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Doin' groovy, thanks. And, thanks for swinging by the other wiki. When I saw the thrusting and parrying you were doing to the vandals over on the blocked users page, I couldn't help but smile. This place really gets under your skin and stays there. Try sending another e-mail if possible. If you don't hear from me right away, leave word at the other site. As far as returning here, I've thought of it, played around doing the RC patrolling...but I'm not sure I want the stress. If I do, it'll be strictly quiet editing. Done lots of work on the other wikis that could be moved here. 74.62.6.84 02:36, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding a user

Apparently, UJonk has been creating User:--- pages (see his contributions) and all I see on them is that they have been indefinitely blocked.

I'm just wondering if these are real users, and why it says UJonk has created all of them.

Can you please clear this issue up? I'm a bit confused here.

--Nishkid64 23:30, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He has not been creating the users, but just tagging usernames that have alrady been blocked with {{indefblock}}. KOS | talk 23:38, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay. Thanks, that clears things up. --  Nishkid64  Talk  19:51, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tinkered with that pic but I'll let the experts decide which tag it eventually needs. --Alf melmac 00:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old warnings

Hi - I deliberately blanked the warnings at User talk:218.214.70.16. They were all old and no longer relevant. I believe leaving old warnings dilutes the message and makes it harder for the anon to find the latest message. I would not delete warnings given in the last few days but warnings back to November 2005 just make it harder to dind the latest - the Nov 2005 may not refer tot he same computer user. I discussed this at Wikipedia talk:Removing warnings poll#Clean-up of IP talk pages and got the response Antique IP talk pages are speedy deletion candidates. Whenever I run into one with only old warnings when I'm about to warn someone, I delete it before adding a new warning. I understand that not everyone who does RC patrol has admin powers, but I don't see the problem with anyone blanking the page before adding new warnings (or even without adding new warnings). JYolkowski Regsards--Arktos talk 02:29, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes hello, I reverted because of this diff, which was done by the anon and not you. Vandals should not remove warnings from their talk pages, and this is what this one did. I'm fine with you blanking talk pages and what not, but I'd like to say I do not appreciate your use of the rollback feature to revert me. That is not what that tool is for. Cheers KOS | talk 02:35, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked username

Hello. I see that you block my username of the folowing reason:

Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "W1N570N5M17H".

It is also written there that my ip is 72.14.192.33

It must be a mistake. First of all I DO NOT USE this IP(and never used it before) My IP is 88.215.149.10(for the last 5 mounth). Secondly - you can check the contributions assumed to my username and ip and see that there are no spam or any actions kinda of that. Thank you Sasha l 12:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the autoblock. Should be able to edit now. KOS | talk 13:59, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any "your mother" term in usernames are blocked

Why do you think usernames with the term "your mother" (or similar) will be blocked on sight? Thanks. Bigtop 19:23, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because they have the potential to offend people. Do you think they shouldn't? KOS | talk 19:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If I may add: "Names that are recognised as slurs or insults", this statement comes straight off the Wikipedia:Username policy page. Now the expression Your mom is an insult towards ones mother. Besides the only name I've blocked recently that I can recall is this one which also uses the "@yahoo.com" which could also have been blocked with the {{UsernameBlockedEmail}} because of the potential attracting spammers. Hopes that will clear this up further for you. KOS | talk 19:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for reverting vandalism on my user page again! Molerat 20:18, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed that you created on after the fact. I reverted myself. You should use an edit summary to explain your actions. That will help avoid mistakes such as these. KOS | talk 04:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Thank you for your assistance with the edits made by 65.182.28.194 on the Rainforest Alliance page... the IP address is registered in San Jose, Costa Rica (one of the three major Rainforest Alliance headquarters) - so these edits are a bit suspicious to me. I am still relatively new to Wikipedia - what is the procedure when dealing with such vandalism? We can't revert these edits forever... Thanks again for your help! Quebecois1983 18:24, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When a page is being vandalized the editor who is making the edits are usually warned with templates. See a list at Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace#Grid_of_warnings. If after a certain amount of edits the user does not stop they are usually blocked, for a period of time deemed appropriate by the blocking admin. See Wikipedia:Vandalism as well. Thanks for the message. Happy editing. KOS | talk 18:31, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Long-Overdue RfA Thanks from Alphachimp

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.

With new buttons come great responsibility, and I'll try my best to live up to your expectations. If you need assistance with something, don't hesitate to swing by my talk page or email me (trust me, I do respond :)). The same goes for any complaints or comments in regard to my administrative actions. Remember, I'm here for you.

(Thanks go to Blnguyen for the incredible photo to the right.) alphaChimp laudare 01:17, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Hi, I've noticed that there are ip user who created new signature. I mean I'm so curious about these two IP. User:68.39.174.238 and User:69.145.123.171. Are these IP user really IP? In my opinion, They're good ip users or These two IP are not controlled by Human. Is it true that those IP I've mentioned really IP user? Please, reply in my talk page. Cheers! Daniel's page 02:52, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes they are really editors who edit from their ip address. KOS | talk 02:53, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: break

Thanks for the message, KOS! Unfortunately, my professional life has become increasingly busy and I am not certain that I will be able to resume editing Wikipedia. I have enjoyed working with you and the other editors. — Knowledge Seeker 04:46, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
