Comments, indents & confusion

Hi Heterodidact, Apologies for the interruption. I am wondering if your comment here is in response to my earlier comment here, as it would appear from the indenting, or not. If so, it appears to be replying to things that are not contained in my comment. If not, it might be best for the indenting to be modified. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 05:37, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Ryk72. I'm still learning the convention of the talk pages. What indenting should I choose if I'm primarily looking to respond to Rhoark's comment, but also make a general statement on the overarching subject? Heterodidact (talk) 18:01, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the late response. Usually we would indent one more than the comment to which we are primarily responding; in this case, one more than Rhoark's comment; as that is the original comment in the thread, this would also be the best place for a general comment on that thread. I would also be inclined to quote any statements to which direct responses are made, using {{tq}} or similar. Hope this helps. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 05:11, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the guidance. I'll apply it carefully in the future. Heterodidact (talk) 01:29, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
