Article's name

Should we call this article the "Turkish police force", "Turkish National Police", or "General Directorate of Security"? The first is the first one the average reader would think of. The second is what we currently have. The third is the official one. I propose to have the first two redirect to the third; it is ugly, but official. I note that the Turkish WP uses tr:Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü (third one). --Adoniscik(t, c) 00:49, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because we can have redirects to whatever, the most easy-to-find name for the average user makes sense to me. I couldn't get a single name out of the internet, so I went for what the most common seemed to be. "General Directorate of Security" is confusing for the reader, and this article is about the actual police force - I understand the GDS to be slightly above that? I presume you speak/are Turkish... ninety:one 21:22, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GDS is the official name of the police force, just as the National Intelligence Organization is the official name of the civilian intelligence agency. --Adoniscik(t, c) 07:04, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If that is the case, then it makes perfect sense to move it. ninety:one 21:20, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The official English language website of the Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü is turkishnationalpolice.gov.tr. This is their official English name. This trumps any and all debates over the "correct" translation of the Turkish name88.244.83.209 (talk) 07:45, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish National Police and General Directorate of Security

The Turkish National Police (Template:Lang-tr) is not the same thing as the General Directorate of Security (Template:Lang-tr), just as the General Staff of the Republic of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Genelkurmay Başkanlığı) is not the same thing as the Turkish Armed Forces (Template:Lang-tr). In both cases, the former smaller organizations preside over the latter larger organizations. --Mttll (talk) 18:18, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
