On October 19, 2016, a violent dispersal occured on Roxas Boulevard in front of the US Embassy in Manila. A protest, led by national minority groups, namely Sandugo and Lakbayan ng Pambansang Minorya para sa Sariling Pagpapasya at Makatarungang Kapayapaan, soon led into violent police action, including ramming protesters using a police van.

On the following day, October 20, several police officers are relieved of duty as sanctions for the resulting violent dispersal.[2]
