Gottfried Frölich (3 June 1894 – 30 July 1959) was a German Generalmajor (major general) in the Wehrmacht during World War II. A recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, he briefly commanded the 36th Infantry Division and then later led the 8th Panzer Division.

Biography

Born in Dresden in 1894, Frölich joined the army of Imperial Germany in 1914, upon the outbreak of World War I. He served in the artillery and was commissioned a leutnant (second lieutenant) the following year. He was retained in the postwar Reichswehr (Imperial Defence) and by 1938 was commander of the 78th Panzer Artillery Regiment, 6th Panzer Division.[1]

Frölich surrendered to the British forces in May 1945 and was released in May 1948. He later lived in Heidenheim where he died on 30 July 1958.[1]
