Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences (NICS) is part of the Narayana Health group. NICS is one of the largest cardiac hospitals in the world.[1] It has been accredited by the JCI and the NABH. NICS is located in NH Health City in Bommasandra, Bangalore.

History

Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences was commissioned in 2000. It is a specialized cardiac hospital, located at Bommasandra Industrial Area, Bangalore and is a part of NH Health City. Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty,[2] the Chairman and Founder of Narayana Health, who has performed nearly 15,000 heart surgeries, established NICS as a centre to focus on complex cardiac surgery and heart transplantation.

NICS is equipped with 23 cardiac operation theaters, 5 digital Cath labs including a hybrid Cath Lab, and has 200 critical care beds for post-operative care. NICS also has one of the largest pediatric ICUs in the world.[3] The hospital has also performed free cardiac procedures for children and successfully treated heart problems on newborns, as well as adults, from several countries. NICS specializes in performing complex cardiac surgery and is equipped to perform up to 60 heart surgeries per day.[4] The niche cardiac procedures that are performed in NICS include complex valve repair, coronary artery bypass grafting, pulmonary endarectomy for chronic pulmonary embolism, ROSS procedure, aneurysm repairs, left ventricular remodelling/Dor procedure, electrophysiology and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implant.
