Spending the time working on the farm developed his physique. When his parents divorced his step father had a gym, it was then he began a lifelong commitment to weight training.

He went on to build a client roster that includes Vogue China, Elle Singapore, Harper's Bazaar China, L'Officiel, GQ China, Indochino, Ports 1961, Nike Numero, Stella McCartney and others. Whilst he has worked all over the world it is fair to say that the epicenter of his work is currently Asia having opened his studio "Todd Anthony Tyler Photography" in Shanghai, China in 2003. In December 2013 Tyler shot HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana of Thailand for Numero magazine.[7] He has also photographed some of Asia's most famous models such as Liu Wen, Fei Fei Sun and Kiki Kang. Photographic style
Tyler's work is influenced in part by his international travels combined with his passed modelling experience which enables him to connect well with his models. Though he does do commercial work, his preference is for images that have a raw energy to them that blend a touch of fantasy and story telling without losing complete touch with reality. He leans towards darker and at times sexually charged images[22]. His final images are a combination of planning and what happens organically on the shoot. When it comes to technical approach he adapts to what each shoot calls for: crisp, clear, sharp shots for commercial work in general and atmospheric selective focus shots for creative/editorial style images. He uses lighting units by Broncolor, Elinchrom and Profoto and photography equipment by Canon although he also may use Nikon and Sony if the shoot calls for it, for larger projects he uses Hasselblad.
