Michael James Tomlinson-Mynors[2] (born 1 October 1977) is a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. He is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Mid Dorset and North Poole after gaining the seat from the Liberal Democrats at the 2015 General Election.[3]

Early Life

Education

Michael Tomlinson graduated from Kings College London with a BA in Classics before studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Law and becoming a Barrister. [citation needed]

Honours

Tomlinson was awarded the Queen Mother Scholarship in 2001, Middle Temple’s most prestigious major award.[citation needed] In 2002, Tomlinson won the Rosamund Smith Mooting Cup and represented Middle Temple in the United States and Hong Kong. [citation needed]

Parliamentary career

Michael Tomlinson has represented the constituency of Mid Dorset and North Poole since the 2015 General Election.[3] He made his maiden speech in the House of Commons on 22 June 2015 during a debate on the Education and Adoption Bill.[6] Tomlinson used his maiden speech to highlight funding disparities between local education authorities, he called for fairer funding in Poole and Dorset[7].

EU Referendum and European Scrutiny Committee

In November 2016, Michael Tomlinson became a member of the European Scrutiny Committee. Tomlinson voted for the UK to hold a referendum on continued membership of the European Union and he subsequently supported the campaign to leave the European Union.

Tomlinson was a member of both the Public Bill Committees for the Childcare Bill andAll Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) the Education and Adoption Bill.

All Party Parliamentary Groups

Michael Tomlinson is currently the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Youth Employment. He has consistently highlighted both youth employment and apprenticeships in Parliament. Tomlinson is also an officer of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Ending Homelessness, which is supSported by the charity group Crisis.
