Slovene literature starts with Freising manuscripts around 1000. From first printed Slovene religious books in 1550 it is followed by those literary periods and notable authors:

Reformation (late 16th century)

Romanticism (early 18th century)

Between romanticism and realism (late 19th century)

Moderna (early 20th century / Realism, New Romanticism, Symbolism, Decadence)

Between the world wars (Expressionsism, Social Realism)

World war II (Socialist Realism)

Post World war II (Fin de Siécle Revisited, Modernism, Postmodernism)
