Idris Kanu (born 5 December 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays for as a forward for National League side Aldershot.

Club career

Early career

Kanu spent his formative years in the academy of Premier League side, West Ham United whom he had joined when he was 11 years old.[1] In September 2016, Kanu had a trial with Manchester United and scored twice in an U18 match against Middlesbrough.[1] United opted not to sign him, however, and in October he joined National League side, Aldershot Town.

Aldershot

On 7 October 2016, Aldershot confirmed the signing of Kanu on an amateur contract. He had been training with the club for a number of weeks following his failed trial in Manchester. Upon signing, Kanu was reunited with James Cowe, the club's assistant manager who had previously been West Ham's assistant academy director.[1] He made his debut for the club the following day, coming on for an eight-minute cameo in a 2-0 win over Solihull Moors.[1] He scored his first professional goal in his next match, netting in a 2-1 FA Cup loss to Eastbourne Borough.[2] Kanu's first league goal came on 12 November when he scored the opening goal in a 3-3 draw with Lincoln City.[2] On 6 December, Kanu signed his first professional with the club, penning a two-and-a-half-year deal until 2019.[3]
