Starting afresh
Hi! I am starting to write or edit this article as it contains a lot of errors such as the topic Climate is there twice. Also the names of tourist spots are mentioned twice. It will take some time but I assure that every thing i change will be cited properly and there won't be any copyright violation. If unknowingly I make any mistake, then please kindly correct it and if there is any big change you are doing, please atleast notify me 24 hours before so that I can discuss it with you. And help is always welcome. Vishal14K 11:30, 18 April 2012 (UTC) Vishal14k
Villages
I have taken the liberty of removing the list of villages in Hisar District, which seems to be better suited to that article than here. I am, however, preserving the list here for ease of access, if it is decided to put it back. Cheers, LindsayHello 16:51, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

- Issues (Main problems are stated in the brackets)
- If addressed the problem, please use this:
Problem
Ref problem. Please see: Wikipedia:Citing sources (The biggest problem)Many times it is stated that: The city has its own..... (such sentences should not be there as you are not comparing any under developed city and no big deal if compared also). Such statements should either be removed or should be neutralized or can be made: The city has... (second, main problem)Hisar has a well developed network of health facilities, (not completely neutral)(Provided reference and there is neither any comparison nor any exaggeration.)Many grammatical errors (I wont post them all here but they should be fixed)(Tried my best.)City name (this section should be renamed to Etymology)Town Park is also a major attraction of the city. (neutrality)Agroha Dham is the most prominent religious place in the city (unsourced and how is it most prominent compared to others?)Other historical sites are the Tomb of Pranpir Badshah located inside Government College Complex. (unsourced)It is the biggest centre for Judo coaching in India. (unsourced)In the education, there is See: List of schools in Hisar and See: List of Universities and Colleges in Hisar in between, but it should be on the start of the section with: ({{see also|List of schools in Hisar|List of Universities and Colleges in Hisar}})Hisar is famous for its rich education facilities. The emergence of institutions providing coaching for various entrance examinations has led to students from other neighboring cities and towns coming to Hisar for quality education. Besides, there are also a large number of schools providing education. (completely unsourced and not neutral)Before the coming of British, indigenous schools provided elementary education. (coming?)Bus service is the major means of transport in the district (unsourced)Hisar has long been the medical care hub of Haryana. (since when and how? also unsourced)Before independence of India, monsoon or groundwater used to be the main sources of irrigation. (unsourced)The Hindus are not orthodox though they follow traditional beliefs. (how can you say that? This sentence should be removed as you dont have to say such things in an article to prove something)The diet of the people is simple but nutrient (how? It is like an essay type sentence and unsourced)The city has a thriving steel industry. (thriving? unsourced)Due to liberalization of economy, a lot of international brands have opened up their stores in the city. (unsourced)The city falls under the Hisar Lok Sabha constituency, thus contributing only one Member of Parliament (MP) (thus only one MP, doesn't sound good)The main characteristics of climate in Hisar are dryness, extremes of temperature and scanty rainfall. The city witnesses very hot summers and very cold winters. (unsourced)The average annual rainfall is around 450 mm most of which occurs during the months of July and August. (unsourced)It has grown to a vital position on the urban map of Haryana.(how? not neutral and unsourced)Its location is such that for any development away from the Grand Trunk Road, Hisar draws the attention (an odd sentence)The city, which was once marked by the recurring droughts and famines is now agriculturally one of the most developed in the State. (not neutral)The city remained as a major centre of the Indian independence movement (how and from and till when?)When Babur invaded India in the 1524-26, Hisar was an important strategic center of Ibrahim Lodi’s empire. Before the battle of Panipat in 1526, on reaching the Ghaggar, Babur learnt that the troops from Hisar, led by Hamid Khan, were advancing towards him. He then dispatched prince Humayun with a sufficient number of army who succeeded in defeating the enemy. Babur handed over the city of Hisar to Humayun as a reward for his success in his first military expedition. During his first reign a mosque known as Jama Masjid was built here by Amir Muhammad in 1535 AD. In 1540 AD, Hisar came under Sher Shah Suri when he defeated Humayun but Humayun took it back in 1555 AD and assigned it to Akbar. (unsourced)It again came into prominence in 12th century AD under the rule of Prithviraj Chauhan (how?)

Not reliable sources
Went through a few of references. Following are the observations:
- "The city of steel". Hisar Metal. Retrieved 23 May 2012. -- This source i snot reliable for the information that the city is known as "City of steel". This needs better source.
- About Hisar". Guru Jambheshwar University. Retrieved 23 May 2012. -- I have doubt over the acceptance of this source as reliable. You may not need to remove it right now, but please llok for better source.

- I have added more sources in the first observation and changed the sources of others except for one. Please take a look. Hi,
Reference note 4 is a dead link: http://www.mydigitalfc.com/news/ambala-kanpur-taken-counter-magnet-towns-492
I found it on the WayBack Machine but it doesn't mention Hisar: http://web.archive.org/web/20110722185706/http://www.mydigitalfc.com/news/ambala-kanpur-taken-counter-magnet-towns-492. Does it have the info you want? You can use the link if it does. MathewTownsend (talk) 17:18, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hello! If you look at the second line of the article, you will find "in addition to already existing Hissar, Bareilly, Kota, Gwalior and Patiala." Hissar is another spelling of Hisar. So, I think it can be used. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for mentioning. Regards, Vishal14K | Talk Vishal14K 18:27, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
Why is the importance of this to put it in the lede? - "The Ghaggar[11] and Drishadvati[12] rivers once flowed through the city." What happened to the rivers? MathewTownsend (talk) 23:24, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- p.s. Are you aware that File:Saina-nehwal.jpg is up for deletion? Also, there still are some dead links. I didn't mark them, but you can see them using this tool. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:51, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hello! I have removed the dead links except one, about Nehru Library, which is not a dead link and is working fine. And the failed connections may be temporarily down as I have checked them 2-3 days back but I will check them again after some days and if found still not working, I will find an alternative. And talking about Ghaggar and Drishadvati, they were once mighty rivers and have been mentioned in mythologies. But Ghaggar has now changed its path and Drishadvati is not extinct. However, if you think that they are not important, you can omit this sentence from the lead but keep it in Geography. Also I know that File:Saina-nehwal.jpg is up for deletion and I will change it in a week as soon as I get another image. Regards, Vishal14K | Talk Vishal14K 12:44, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
- Great that you fixed the links. (Thought you would, which is why I didn't mark them. I also noticed that the Nehru Library one was working.) Regarding the rivers, its not that I don't think they are important. But maybe a brief explanation could be added to explain their importance. I'm always interested in rivers in India, especially since their history is important to the history of India! MathewTownsend (talk) 17:26, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

- Refs needed
- It was established in the year 1971. Rare species of endangered animals such as Blackbuck, Chital, Sambar and Nilgai can be found here. Done
- The church has been declared as a historical monument by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage. Done
- It has completely been converted into a mound. A long pillared structure with a flat roof is situated on the top of the mound and is known as Baradari. Barsi Gate served as entrance to the fort and is now located in the town market. It was built in 1304-1305. Done
- The city was also a major centre during the Mauryan period as Buddhist and Jain temples have also been revealed in the excavations. Done
- The important social groups in the district are Jats, Bishnois, Brahmins, Sainis, Banias, Gujjars, Ahirs, Rajputs, Kumhars, Aroras, Chamars and Balmikis. Jat is the largest social group in the city. They are of two types, Deswalis and Bagris. Bishnois have migrated from Rajasthan. There are two sections of Brahmins in the district, i.e., Gaur and Khandelwal. Most of the Aroras are migrant from Pakistan after the partition of the country in 1947. Banias are divided into Aggarwals, Oswals and Maheshwaris. The Aggarwals are said to be the descendants of the inhabitants of Agroha. They hold Agroha in great reverence. Oswals and Maheshwaris trace their origin to the Rajputs of Rajasthan. Done
- General issues
- The sub-section of "culture", "Media and Television", should be made out to a separate section "Media" Done
- "See also" must not have more then 2 links: Hisar (Lok Sabha constituency), and Hisar division Done
- The section, "Places of interest" should be merged to "culture" section Done
- "Historical Places" should be renamed to "Architecture" Done
→TSU tp* 19:58, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
- Last issues (neutrality, word choices, grammar and few fixes)
- Average literacy rate is 81.04 %.[1] In 1960s, the per capita income of the city was the highest in the country. - this is in the lead. It should not be in fact, because it sounds little odd and it it "too specific". Lead should summarize the article not introduce new things. So please move those lines to demographics section. Done
- Merge this: The most commonly spoken languages are Hindi[14] and English; the most common dialects are Haryanvi[15] and Bagri. to the second paragraph in the lead. Done
- Boldness in "Etymology" - Please make sure that words do not appear bold as it is useless and also looks awkward. Done
- In religions and communities, change this word "bulk" as it is little bit informal. Done
- Remove this from culture as it has been used previously: Hindus constitute the bulk of population representing roughly 97% of the population followed by Muslims, Sikhs, Jains and Christians. Done
- This doesn't make sense and sounds odd, please rewrite it: It is now governed by Municipal Corporation, Hisar which comes under Hisar Urban Agglomeration. Done
- Hisar is India's largest galvanized iron manufacturing city, this should be As of June 2012, Hisar is India's largest galvanized iron manufacturing city Done
- in the economy section this is repeating as it is used twice previously so remove this: Due to presence of a large steel industry, Hisar is also known as "The City of Steel". Now to fix this change the second sentence and make it: As of June 2012, Hisra, "The City of Steel" is India's largest galvanized iron manufacturing city, Done
- Last but big fix; create a new section from this sub section: "Transport facilities" like Ahmedabad has. Done
Once addressed this, I'll have a look at the article again and will point out issues if I found but most probably this is now an eligible GA with the issues fixed. Cheers! →TSU tp* 04:54, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Doing... Converted transport into a separate section. But it would take atleast one day to find and add more data to all the subsections of transport. Most probably will complete it by tomorrow evening. Regards, Vishal14K | Talk 12:30, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- Comment: Awesome! Just 1 more thing is that remove refs from the lead. Now a days, GA and FA don't have refs in the lead because the topic is covered later in the article. So also make sure that things in the lead are covered in the article and thus move the refs from lead to the place where the info is in the article. Cheers! →TSU tp* 14:40, 30 June 2012 (UTC) Done
- Phew! I think everything is complete now. Please take a look again and let me know if there is anything left. Regards, Vishal14K | Talk 18:55, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- I know that it would have been tough and boring lately but they were to be done for GA. I m sorry. I have to tell: I haven't seen an dedicated editor like you! Congrats! →TSU tp* 19:46, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Bring the article to re-assessment for multiple reasons.
- Issues with references; not formatted and bare links.
- Uncited claims like "Chajju Ram Memorial Jat College is known for its sports facilities.", "Jahaaj Kothi at Firoz Shah Palace & Fort Complex also houses a museum.", "It is one of Asia's biggest agricultural university", "In August 2012, the DGCA approved the Haryana state government's plan to develop the airport to operate domestic passenger services. Its 4,000 foot runway will be extended to 6,000 feet to accommodate airline aircraft.", "Direct To Home (DTH) services are provided by almost all the operators."
- Sections like healthcare (hospitals), Utility services (telecom companies), Economy (companies and people), Education (colleges) and culture (festivals) consist of long lists with no information. It is not yellow pages!
- Economy section has a laundry list of people with Jindal family listed exclusively. What is the connection between economy of the city and these people?
- Needs re-phrasing and copy-editing. Second para in economy starts with "Additionally, a large textile industry is based in the city." Lines like "Metropolis Mall has been made". Also, "Sports facilities are provided in every school and college."
- Parks and recreation is like an advertisement page for OP Jindal park. Lines like "Chajju Ram Memorial Jat College is known for its sports facilities."

- Thanks for the ping, Sainsf. Oddly, I discovered that this article didn't use the same name for its article and talk and GA review and reassessment pages; I've standardized them all on the article, which is Hisar (city). (If you discover any lingering problems, please let me know.)
- Although this is a community assessment, at this point I think it makes sense to wait on Magentic Manifestations, who has made progress in fixing the issues he or she identified in opening the reassessment. Once all the issues have been addressed, that can be noted here; indeed, Magentic Manifestations can add a "Keep" to indicate that the article should retain GA if that's appropriate. In the meantime, anyone else can review the article and make their own assessment of the situation. This will likely remain open for a while even after Magentic Manifestations is done, but that doesn't hurt anything; the article remains a GA unless there is agreement to delist it. - Sainsf, I think Magentic Manifestations can close it, having decided that the reassessment is not needed. I'm basing this on the instructions at WP:GAR under the Community Reassessments column. Otherwise, this can just wait until someone comes along to close it: there's no rush, no harm done, and the GA listing isn't affected by it. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:48, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
