Owen LaFave is the ex-husband of Debra Lafave who was a reading teacher at Greco Middle School in Temple Terrace, Florida, and was charged with several counts of having illegal sex with a minor in Hillsborough County and Marion County in 2005. The Hillsborough County Board of Education first put Lafave on administrative duty, then suspended her later in July.

Owen LaFave has been asked to be a part of the documentary After School, which will study the problems of teacher/student relationships. Owen has become a frequent commenter in this field and has appeared on over 50 television programs speaking out about what has happened. Additionally, Owen also co-authored a book entitled Gorgeous Disaster, with New York Times bestselling author Bill Simon. The book was released in September 2006 through Phoenix Books. Additionally, he's been asked to contribute to a book being authored by Larry King.
