Mackenzie "Kenzie" Frances Ziegler (born June 4, 2004)[1][2] is an American actress, dancer, singer, and model. She is the younger sister of dancer and actress Maddie Ziegler and is best known for her appearance on Lifetime's Dance Moms.

Early life

Ziegler was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Melissa Ziegler-Gisoni and Kurt Ziegler, divorced when she was 6 years old due to financial and emotional distress stemming from dance.[3][4] Her mother remarried in 2013. Ziegler has an older sister, Maddie, who is also a dancer and actress, as well as two older paternal half-brothers, Ryan and Tyler, and two older step-siblings, Matthew and Michelle.[5] She began dancing at the Abby Lee Dance Company in Pittsburgh at the age of two, and now dances at Dance Mechanics.[6][7] She has won titles at regional, state, and national dance competitions.[8][9]

Ziegler is homeschooled and currently splits her time between Los Angeles and her hometown of Murrysville, Pennsylvania. [10][11]

Career

Television

Ziegler first appeared on television in 2011 on Lifetime's Dance Moms, alongside her mother and sister.[12] The series documented the training and careers of Ziegler and her teammates on the Abby Lee Dance Company Elite Competition Team as they traveled the country attending dance competitions. In 2016, the Zieglers left the show after six seasons in order to pursue other projects.[13] Dance Moms is slated for cancellation after it's seventh season.[14] Ziegler has also appeared on Dance Mom's sister shows Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition and Abby's Studio Rescue, as well as Dancing With The Stars.[15][16][17] In 2015, she made her acting debut on Nickelodeon's Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. [18] She has also appeared on numerous talk shows including The Today Show, The View, and Good Day New York.[19]

Music

In 2014, Ziegler released her debut album under the stage name Mack Z. The album peaked at #1 on the iTunes pop charts, as well as #7 on the overall charts, topping both Pharrell Williams and the Frozen soundtrack. The music video for the album's lead single, "Girl Party", reached #1 in the US, UK, and Australia.[20][21] Later that year, her holiday single "Christmas All Year Long" premiered exclusively by Billboard.[22] Ziegler's music videos have accumulatively attracted more that 54 million views.[23] In November 2016, Ziegler released a duet with singer Johnny Orlando entitled "Day & Night". [24] The duet's music video was released on December 21, 2016.

Ziegler was nominated at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards for Choice Muser.[25]

Modeling

In 2015, Ziegler walked the Polo Ralph Lauren Runway in New York City. That same year she appeared in a campaign video for Glamour Magazine.[26] In 2016, she and her sister Maddie were the faces of Clean & Clear's Fall back-to-school campaign.[27] Also in 2016, Ziegler was the face of Polo Ralph Lauren's children's spring 2016 collection.[28][29]

In 2014, Ziegler and her sister released a limited edition fashion line, The Maddie & Mackenzie Collection, through Mod Angel.[30] In fall 2016, Ziegler released a t-shirt line called Tee4Too.[31]

Philanthropy

In 2012, Ziegler, along with her mother and sister, partnered with Starlight Children's Foundation to help raise awareness for chronically ill youth.[32] Ziegler has also partnered with foundations such as Love Your Melon and Dancers Against Cancer in order to raise awareness and funding for childhood cancer.[33][34]
