Christopher Dooley, Jr. (born March 7, 1989) better known by his stage name Hurricane Chris, is an American rapper from Shreveport, Louisiana. He was well known for his commercial debut single, "A Bay Bay", and the other singles such as "The Hand Clap", "Playas Rock" featuring Boxie, "Halle Berry (She's Fine)" featuring Superstarr, and "Headboard" featuring Mario and Plies; as well as putting out these two albums by far – 51/50 Ratchet (2007) and Unleashed (2009) – while still under the contract as one of the signee artists to both Polo Grounds Music and J Records.
Early life
Christopher Dooley, Jr. was born on March 7, 1989, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He attended Huntington High School, and then he decided to drop out to embark his rap career.
Career
2007–2009: 51/50 Ratchet and Unleashed
On May 28, 2007, Chris released his debut single for his untitled major-label debut album, called "A Bay Bay". The song was produced by Phunk Dawg.
On August 8, 2007, Chris released his second single for his untitled major-label debut album, called "The Hand Clap". Phunk Dawg also produced this track.
On August 17, 2007, Chris released his official debut mixtape, called Louisi-Animal. Louisi-Animal contains the remix to "A Bay Bay", featuring guest appearances from these fellow rappers The Game, Lil Boosie, E-40, Baby, Angie Locc (who was the member of the "The Lava House" group) and Jadakiss.
On October 23, 2007, Chris released his major-label debut album, 51/50 Ratchet. The record debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard 200; and sold 26,000 copies in the first week.
On March 3, 2009, Chris released his first single for his untitled second album, called "Halle Berry (She's Fine)". The song features guest vocals from fellow local rapper Superstarr, who also produced this track, alongside the production duo Play-N-Skillz and the unknown Q Smith.
On September 8, 2009, Chris released the second single for Unleashed, called "Headboard". The song features guest vocals from American R&B singer Mario and a American rapper Plies, while the production was provided by The Inkredibles.
On December 21, 2009, Chris released his second album, Unleashed. Unleashed did not charted internationally, however, the record did peaked at number 46 on the US Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and number 20 on the US Billboard's Top Rap Albums charts, respectively.
2010: Departure from Polo Grounds
In 2010, Chris was dropped from Polo Grounds record label.
2011–2015: New music and mixtapes
On March 12, 2012, Chris released a track, called "Bend It Over". On May 25, 2012, via AllHipHop, Chris revealed that the title for his untitled third album would be called Return of the Hurricane. On January 2, 2013, Chris released his mixtape, called Caniac.[1][2]
On January 11, 2014, Chris released a single for Return of the Hurricane, called "Ratchet". The song was produced by DJ Mustard. The song was re-released through iTunes on January 16, 2014. On May 11, 2014, Chris shared a remix to "Ratchet", featuring guest verse from a Baton Rouge's-native rapper Lil Boosie.[3]
On August 21, 2015, Chris revealed that his new single would be called "Sections" featuring Ty Dolla $ign (produced by DJ Mustard), and the single would be released for his next mixtape.[4] On September 4, 2015, Chris released his mixtape, titled Hurricane Season. The mixtape features the production from DubMagic Roe, Zaytoven, HitMaka!, Drumma Boy and Self Service, among others.
Personal life
In an interview with The Advocate's Samantha Morgan, Chris spoke about how he came with the name "Hurricane", saying that it came from his ability to rap fast and twist words, and the way he came up with these lyrics "like a hurricane that just blown through".
