The Târgu Mureș Metropolitan Area is a metropolitan area in Târgu Mureș, Romania. It was founded in 2005. It has a population of 243,730 as of 2011 census. It is Romania's only metropolitan area where Hungarians form the largest ethnic group, in total of 131,288 (53.9%), the Romanians form less than the half of the total population, totaling 100,256 (41.1%) and the remaining 12,180 (5.0%) are Roma, Germans, Jews and more.
