List of Eureka Seven characters
This page lists the main characters from the anime series and manga Eureka Seven, covering the characters who are widely considered to be "primary" to the plot of the story. They are broken down into three main categories, the three "factions" in the series: Gekko State, a group of pirates formed from a defunct special forces group; the U.F. Force, the United Federation of Predgio Towers' main military force in the series; and the Civilians.
Gekko State
Renton Thurston
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Yuko Sanpei | Johnny Yong Bosch |
- Age: 14
Son of the late military hero Adrock Thurston and co-pilot of the Nirvash typeZERO. Before joining Gekko State, he lived with his grandfather Axel Thurston in Bellforest, attending school and learning to be a mechanic in Axel's shop. After the Nirvash accidentally crashed into the Thurston household, Renton met Eureka and fell in love with her at first sight. Renton's unusual link with Nirvash and responsiblity over his father's Amita drive motivated him forward to join Gekko State. He came to the Gekko-Go to follow Holland, his great idol; and to be with Eureka, whom he fell in love with and swore to protect. His time with Gekko State had been a difficult transition as he suffered no end of pranks from the crew members (especially Euereka's children). Renton stayed with Gekko State to train and in time his skill as a LFO pilot has developed on par or above Eureka. That development affected a rift with Eureka as he desires her to return his love for her. His love for Eureka is not secret; everyone on board Gekko-Go interferes in his love life. The crew members constantly wants to know his progress and cheers him on.
Though somewhat of a celebrity, being the son of a savior, he himself feels uncomfortable being the son of Adrock Thurston. There isn't a place he hasn't traveled that his last name won't ring a bell to anyone. His own uncle shows great pride for Adrock, but no one seems to understand that made Renton feel constantly under his own father's shadow. He always felt Adrock wasn't a good father and abandoned his family for his research. It wasn't until later while talking to Eureka that he found out that his father loved his family. After knowing his father sacrificed his life for the benefit of his family Renton no longer hated Adrock. His relationship with both Nirvash and Eureka develops deeper to an emotional and mental link to which it was noticed my Mischa. Renton and Holland were at odds at each other at one point and Renton ran away and encountered Charles and Ray (former squad members of SOF with Holland). Renton learned to love the couple and they wanted to adopt Renton as their son seeing how they can't bear children. However Charles and Holland have a serious score to settle which lead to a complicated altercation with Renton confused in the middle. He left the couple to return to Gekko State to see Eureka.
When Renton left Gekko-Go, Eureka began to miss Renton and started taking his duties. Renton himself desired to see Eureka and he decided to return to Gekko-Go to see Eureka. Eureka herself left minutes before Renton returned. Eureka got herself into a serious situation in which Charles and Ray were part of a large military fleet. Renton launched on Nivarsh and rescued Eureka. They both confessed their feelings for each other and created a new energy band often confused as the "Seven Swell." After Renton realized his actions lead to the deaths of people Renton took a more merciful method of combat of simply disarming enemy units. When Renton and Eureka shared this similar feeling, Nivarsh released an energy wave that disabled every machine in the sky. It was this moment that they told each other of their feelings while the whole Gekko-State crew eavesdropped on the whole conversation.

Kaori Nazuka | Stephanie Sheh |
- Age: Unknown
A pale young girl with pale green hair who looks about Renton's age, co-pilot of the Nirvash typeZERO. She treats Nirvash not like a mere machine, but as a living being, with consciousness and feelings. However, she can seem distant and awkward to other people - she has trouble communicating with other humans and understanding their feelings. It is later revealed that she is actually a Coralian in human form, sent by the Scab Coral to understand and communicate with humans. The Earth dreamed to connect with humanity and two human Corelians came to existence. Sakuya came first and she foretold of Eureka's arrvial. Eureka is meant to be a blank page so that her experiences with humanity would return to the Corelians. She herself is not aware of her past nor have any knowledge of the Corelians even though she's one herself. She is the adoptive mother of Maurice, Maeter and Linck, whose families she killed while in the SOF. Her lack of understanding of her own feelings creates complications at times whenever Renton tries to bond with her. After she entered the Corelian with Renton, she began suffering at a subconscious level as a side effect. She's constantly feeling tired and seems to be in either despair or depression. The negative feelings she's been feeling is further increased as she feels Nirvash no longer wants her to pilot and have Renton pilot instead.
She later would be involved in an accident in which her body was covered in a strange bio-matter and a priest of Voderak explained that she tried to cross to the tenth dimension and ended up like this. The bio-matter covering her body was removed by the priest and after the whole incident Renton ran away. Eureka's hair and skin were damaged from the ordeal. During the time Renton was absent, Eureka began to develop more complex human emotions and Mischa discovered that her brain activity has changed and that she needs Renton in order to function. Eureka only acts what she feels and wasn't aware she's in love with Renton. The female crew members commented on her feelings and that's when she wanted to understand more of what she's feeling. She wanted to see Renton so bad she ran away just as Renton did. After they were reunited the two became a couple, but both were constantly unsure how to react to one another. Eureka would constantly notice how the women on board Gekko-Go react and behave around men in hopes Renton would appreciate her more. She tried to use makeup, but she used too much and created shocking results.
Eureka's feelings started to allow her to understand guilt and regret as her emotions connect with her memories as an SOF member. She knows that her past actions led to the deaths of many people. Because she understands killing is wrong she lost confidence in herself and no longer desires to fight with Nivarsh. Renton also believes taking lives is wrong so they both fight to only disable enemy units. Renton constantly consoles her as she's trying to deal with her past actions and facing resposibility for the Devorak people. Sakuya and Eureka are very similar to each other and Sakuya helped restore most of Eureka's superficial damage, but wishes to keep her scars to remind her of her struggles. She and Renton enters the Corelian realm hoping to change humanities fate. Her name is usually not pronounced like the word "eureka" (pronounced eh-oo-reh-kah instead of you-reek-a).
Maurice, Maeter, and Linck
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Michiko Neya (Maurice), Eriko Kigawa (Maeter), Fumie Mizusawa (Linck) | Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Maurice), Peggy O'Neal (Maeter) |
- Ages: 5, 4, and 3 respectively
Three orphans adopted by Eureka. Three years ago, shortly before she left the SOF with Holland, Eureka found them under a pile of corpses at Ciudad del Cielo. Shocked at the sight of the orphaned children of people she'd killed, Eureka took them aboard the Nirvash and has taken care of them ever since. Besides being the oldest, Maurice is mature for his age - he's the only one who ever suspects that adults may be misstating the truth to keep the children calm, and he's the most sensitive to Eureka's moods. Maeter is quite precocious, known for teasing and temper-tantrums. Typical of children his age, Linck is ever curious. Named after the author Maurice Maeterlinck.
Holland Novak
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Keiji Fujiwara | Crispin Freeman |
- Age: 29
Leader of Gekko State, captain of the Gekko-Go, and pilot of the LFO Terminus typeR909. Until recently he and his companions were part of SOF, an U.F. elite military unit, but deserted after meeting Norbu. This caused his brother Dewey to be incarcerated, and they share a deep hatred for each other. Holland's known as one of the greatest ref boarders alive, and is an idol to many young people, including Renton. In person, he's not as cool and composed as the photos in ray=out magazine might suggest- he frequently loses his temper when a situation turns bad, or when faced with insubordination. He's thrown Renton in the brig for using Nirvash without permission, and he has beaten Renton for particularly vexing transgressions. His concern over Eureka's depression motivates him to show illogical animosity towards Renton. He himself has been mentally suffering memories from his past actions. His relationship with Talho keeps him from getting too wild, but at times their own relationshp suffers whenever he's angry. When he's not occupied with official Gekko State business, though, he's quite laid-back and carefree; he might be found listening to records in the room he shares with Talho, or walking around the ship wearing nothing but a pair of swim trunks.
Talho Yūki
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Michiko Neya | Kate Higgins |
- Age: 26
The head pilot of the Gekko-Go. She met Holland and Dewey when the three of them served together in the military, but in the beginning she was very jealous toward the way he treated Eureka. She initially worked in the Information Bureau, but was demoted as an officer and became a spy later on. She is best friends with Hilda. Initially, she makes fun of Renton, but her character later turned more serious and she stopped doing this. She constantly looks after Holland's mental state as he vents his frustration at Renton at times because he blames him of Eureka's mental state. She constantly reminds him of where his mind should focus and not be obsessed with. Towards the middle of the series, Talho cuts her hair and wears a different, less revealing outfit - due to the fact that she is pregnant with Holland's child. Talho and Holland aren't officially involved in a relationship until later on in the series when Holland fixes the ring that was bent in the process of saving her from an LFO's stomp. Holland is also seen wearing a ring himself, most probably signifying marriage.
Matthieu
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Akio Nakamura | Kirk Thornton |
- Age: 25
The easygoing pilot of the Terminus typeR606. People around him say Hilda orders him around as if she were his wife. He even treats Hilda as if she were his wife, by calling her "honey" all the time. He has a passion for music, and seems to be constantly bored. Early on, he was one of the few members of the Gekko State who showed any sympathy for Renton, although he played his fair share of jokes on him, too.
Hilda
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Mayumi Asano | Megan Hollingshead |
- Age: 28
Pilot of the Terminus typeR808, and Talho's best friend. She holds a managerial position similar to a quartermaster on the Gekko-Go, keeping track of Gekko State's stores of provisions and mechanical parts - in this capacity, she is generally in charge of the frequent trips to cities to replenish the organization's supplies.
Stoner
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Yasunori Matsumoto | Doug Stone |
- Age: 30
Photographer and journalist for ray=out, a periodical magazine where he denounces the U.F.'s crimes and also depicts the daily life of the Gekko State members to their fans around the world. He usually rides with Matthieu. Stoner is given to expounding on his philosophical ideas at any time and place, including those which may be least appropriate, such as from the back seat of the 606 in the middle of LFO combat.
Ken-Goh
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Tamio Ohki | Bob Papenbrook (episodes 1-28), Kyle Hebert (episodes 29+) |
- Age: 45
He is both the owner and the chief gunner of the Gekko-Go. Not much was known about his history with Holland but dialogue implies that he had something to do with the building of or security on board the Gekko-Go. He once stated "I would not have let you have the Gekko-Go if you were...". One thing we do know is that he is a great shot. In fact, his aim is legendary among the other crew members, and Holland refers to him as "Maestro" from time to time. He also enjoys painting and his works are often seen in ray=out.
Mischa
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Yoko Soumi | Mary Elizabeth McGlynn |
- Age: 40
As Gekko State's doctor, she's an invaluable crew member, and as a scientist who's studied the Nirvash and Eureka for years, she's particularly attentive to their well-being. She used to be married to a famous scientist, and it seems she's the one who decided to end it. Mischa seems harsh and unemotional on the surface, but she's really just a very serious person. The more one pays attention to what she says, the more it becomes clear that she has her mind on the most important things, or issues that the other members of Gekko State might ignore at their peril.
Gonzy
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Takkō Ishimori |
- Age: Unknown
Not much is known about Gonzy, but usually when people in the Gekko-Go walk troubled through the corridors, like magic, they encounter him sitting on a carpet, calmly drinking tea, and he will often ask them to relax and have some tea with him. He was originally a stowaway aboard the Gekko-Go, but he is allowed to stay in part because the others respect his abilities at fortune-telling. He is eventually revealed as a Coralian.
Jobs
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Tomoyuki Shimura | Dave Mallow |
- Age: 33
Living up to his name, Jobs does the random jobs on the Gekko-Go, and also manages the majority of the hardware aboard the Gekko-Go. He's always immaculately dressed, in shirt, vest and tie, and has a calm, expert bearing, but he occasionally lets these mannerisms slip when something is mentioned that particularly excites him. He is modeled after Steve Jobs (hence, "Jobs"), one of the co-founders of Apple Computers. Also is rather fond of Dr. "Bear", as seen in episode 31.
Woz
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Yūichi Nagashima | Dave Wittenberg |
- Age: 33
Woz the whiz they call him. Woz is the ship's hacker and maintains the ship's software. He and Jobs were originally stowaways aboard the Gekko-Go, but they were invited to stay because of their technical skills. His hippy attitude is a deep contrast to Jobs, but they seem to maintain a strong friendship anyway. He is modeled after Steve Wozniak (hence, "Woz"), one of the co-founders of Apple Computers.
Hap
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Tarō Yamaguchi | Tony Oliver |
- Age: 29
Hap is the second in command and handles Gekko State's finances. He is also one of Holland's childhood buddies (since they were three years old, he asserts), and played a key role in convincing Holland and his SOF team to desert. He gained his nickname from his ever-present "happy smile".
Gidget
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Fumie Mizusawa | Jessica Straus |
- Age: 15
Handles radar and communications. She is also dating Moondoggie. She's a bit of an airhead, which she admits, but she's not tactless and will go out of her way to protect others' feelings. Later on in the series, she tries to become friends with Eureka, because she wants a sisterly relationship like Hilda and Talho have. On another episode, she also went with Eureka to buy makeup, since Eureka wanted to look pretty for Renton. In the end, Eureka tried to use the makeup by herself, and ending up looking very strange.
Moondoggie
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Mamoru Miyano | Steve Staley |
- Age: 16
The newest member on the Gekko-Go before Renton joined. In the beginning, he was in charge of the LFO catapult systems and launch pads on board the Gekko-Go, but later he becomes the head pilot, replacing Talho when she has to leave the post, as he is the group's only other licensed pilot. His pilot's license, seen in episode 34, lists his name as James Darren Emerson. His nickname is frequently shortened to "Doggie" by other members of Gekko State, and Renton sometimes calls him "Doggie-niisan" ("Brother Doggie" in the English dub), referring to Moondoggie as his older brother. In the English version, Moondoggie talks in surfer speak.
U.F. Force
Anemone
Japanese Cast | English Cast |

Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Kōji Tsujitani | Kim Strauss |
- Age: 36
A former lieutenant colonel who was in jail until recently, blamed for Holland and the SOF's desertion, Dewey was released and recommissioned to his position by order of the government, taking Dominic and Anemone under his command. He seems to have a hidden agenda.
Ageha Squad
An anti-Coralian unit created by Dewey, composed primarily of five specially trained children whom Dewey rescued from a refugee camp. Skilled, resourceful, and lethal; they really enjoy their work, like children at play.

Civilians
Axel Thurston
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Takeshi Aono | Steve Kramer |
- Age: 68
Renton's grandfather and a renowned technician who is responsibly for Renton's on-the-job education in mechanical engineering. He initially opposed Renton's idea to join Gekko State, but later he decided to let him go, because he thinks he should see the world for himself, and he also thinks in the end Renton will come back to live with him - he jokingly warns Renton not to return home empty-handed. He was the one who gave the Amita Drive to Renton, and also created the ref boards for both typeZERO and typeZERO spec-2.
Yucatan Iglasias
Renton's uncle, who runs a produce farm in his childhood hometown of Controrado. He was apparently Adrock's brother, or at least a good friend of his, judging from photos of the 2 together. When he caught Renton, Matthieu, and Eureka trying to steal a Puncha Nut from his farm, the 3 were forced to make up stories to keep him in the dark about the Gekko State. Renton is often annoyed by Yucatan's overly-patriotic attitude, though he does not hold it against him. During Renton's visit in episode 15, the military was called in to apprehend him and his friends, but after they escaped, Yucatan was incarcerated in their place. Interestingly, he owns an M1 Garand battle rifle.
Charles Beams
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Jūrōta Kosugi | Patrick Seitz |
Freelance LFO pilot and mercenary, with his partner and wife Ray. Initially content in his life of transporting goods and people as well as fighting thieves and raiders, he is brought into Gekko State's conflict when the Beams are hired by the military to retrieve Eureka and the Nirvash from them. He and his wife were also part of SOF, and they share a past with Holland, Dewey and Adrock. He is personally humorous and easygoing, but under his genial exterior he's as much a killer as any elite soldier. He has many dualities like this in his life - for instance, he displays a collection of high-tech ref boards in his living quarters aboard the Hakucho-Go, but in battle he always keeps an old bolt-action rifle (Possibly a Mauser Karabiner 98k) by his side. Renton also stayed with Charles and his wife for a short while, even at one point calling him dad.
Ray Beams
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Aya Hisakawa | Melissa Fahn |
Another freelance pilot, she is Charles' fighting partner and wife. In the past, an accident made her unable to bear children, and finding a child to call her own has become a fixation for her. She mistrusts Gekko State, particularly Eureka. However, her day-to-day life with Charles is peaceful, as they perform various jobs for hire, go to raves, cook for themselves and keep their ship immaculately clean.
Norbu
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Rikiya Koyama |
A powerful Vodarek priest, he was the one who opened Holland's eyes about the U.F. and Dewey's true intentions, and its consequences for the planet, and convinced him to leave SOF with Eureka and their comrades. Soon afterwards, he disappeared, and remained underground for the next three years. Just like Renton, Norbu also once fell for a potently mysterious girl, named Sakuya.
Sakuya
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Akiko Yajima |
Eureka's predecessor, sporting lavender hair. Because she was a girl of mysterious power, the religious authority of Vodarek thought she was some sort of Messiah, and placed her in the central part of the temple. They banned any disciple from speaking to her, and allowed very few select disciples to care for her in a highly reverent, if sterile, manner. For forty years since her appearance, she has had no significant contact with anyone until she met Norbu, who pitied her lack of appetite and emotion, and offered her a lotus flower with her meal. They were hurriedly sent to cross the Great Wall, but failed, and she was transformed into a giant lotus. Today, her power protects the temple city.
Morita
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Kenichi Ono |
The head of the Tresor military research complex. He was one of the scientists who studied the first Archetype after its unearthing and worked on both Specs of the Nirvash typeZERO. Morita is also acquainted with Axel Thurston through Axel's work on the first LFO ref board for the Nirvash, and though he does not get along well with Holland they are capable of cooperating.
Dr. Greg "Bear" Egan
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Banjou Ginga |
Another researcher who worked on the Archetype that became the Nirvash, Dr. Bear was also part of the team who studied Eureka and her relationship with Nirvash. He has many theories on the Scab Coral, the coralians, LFOs, and Eureka. He was previously married to Mischa of Gekko State, and tends to act as if they were still lovers - for instance, he calls her "pony-chan" and "kuma(meaning bear)-chan". His behaviour often prompts Mischa to take an even sterner tone than usual with him. He is fond of candy, often has a stash of it somewhere on his person, and once told Renton that the candy was part of an important memory in his relationship with Mischa.
Sonia Wakabayashi
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Yuriko Yamaguchi |
Another of Tresor's scientists, she formerly studied Eureka along with Mischa. She's rather high-strung, and not as adaptable to the Gekko State lifestyle as Mischa was.
William B. "Will" Baxter
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Toshio Furukawa |
Will is a young man living somewhat close to Guianas who nursed Renton back to health while he was returning to the Gekko-Go. He is a bit talkative and yet insightful and empathetic, preferring to work with nature rather than dominate it. He maintains a large vegetable garden that is almost impossible to navigate because of the tall grass growing along with the crops, and thrives despite his dismantling of several huge pile bankers that subdue tectonic movements. He lives with his wife and former engineer Martha, a victim of the Despair Syndrome, and speaks to her even though she never answers him audibly. To him, her condition doesn't evoke despair in him, therefore she does not suffer from the Despair Syndrome. Just before the small farm is destroyed by a fragment of Oratorio No. 8, he finally sees Martha walk again.
Currently Deceased
It is later revealed that these characters are not actually deceased but residing in the command cluster of the Coralian. The command cluster was then destroyed, but after a series of events, the Nirvash says that they will leave the earth and reappear once again.
Adrock Thurston
Renton's father, Adrock, was a military researcher considered a hero by the military. His team was conducting experiments involving the Seven Swell phenomenon. The circumstances of his supposed death are shrouded in mystery, but he is believed by the public to be instrumental in ensuring humanity's safety. It's later revealed in a conversation between Eureka and Renton that Adrock vanished during an experiment on the Amita Drive. He prevented the destructive force of the experiment, but he was presumed dead. Later, it's revealed that his state of being was transferred to the Scab Coral along with other human beings to Earth. They are all staying by their own will to continue to understand the truth of things including Adrock. When Renton finally met with his father again, there was no hatred: Renton held his hand and was glad to see him without any animosity from his past feelings.
Diane Thurston
Japanese Cast | English Cast |
---|---|
Sakiko Tamagawa | Peggy O'Neal |
Axel's granddaughter and Renton's older sister. She and Axel were the ones who raised Renton after Adrock's death. She left home some years ago, and for unexplained reasons her family has not heard from her since. Despite appearing in Axel's family photos and in silhouette in the series opening, her face isn't shown for the first 35 episodes - under many different circumstances, her place in flashbacks and photographs is always covered. Talho is troubled by Holland's history with her, and reacts with anxiety at her mention. Diane was obsessed with her father's research, so much that it affected her relationship with Holland. The terms of their breakup weren't thoroughly explained, but it's linked with her strong desire to deeper understand Adrock's work. At some point, Diane somehow ended up in the command center of the Scab Coral. There, in a library artifically created by the Scab Coral, she and a small group of people read to understand the truth that they seek. The vast knowledge they wish to seek would take almost a lifetime and all that remain are under their own volition. Even though Diane told Renton they'll stay together, the Scab Coral command center was blown away and Renton himself had to leave in order to save Eureka. It's suggested that the command center will return again and that Adrock and Diane are alive and well, continuing their reading.

- In the beginning of episode 33, the "present day alternative univese" opening, many of the characters make cameos: Hap, while riding a Seadoo is towing a surfing Matthieu. Holland and Talho, and Charles and Ray are sitting together on the beach. Eureka and Renton are the teenagers jumping into the water, ready to surf.
- In episode 39, Eureka's soccer jersey is number 7. Quite probably a tribute to the everlasting popularity of David Beckham, who wears number 7 when playing for England and wore the number playing for Manchester United.
- During the beginning of episode 45, the two characters that are briefly shown are actually the protagonists of the PS2 Eureka Seven games, Sumner Sturgeon and Ruri in their New Vision attire.
