Foothill High School, a four-year secondary school in Pleasanton, California, was built in 1973, it is one of two comprehensive high schools and one alternative high school in the Pleasanton Unified School District. The current enrollment is approximately 2100 students. The school recently made headlines by banning "freak" dancing. The school mascot is the falcon and the rival school is Amador Valley High School.

Marching Band

Past Foothill Band performances include a tour of England on New Year's Day in 1995, where the band set a record on the [Guinness Book of World Records]] for the longest distance a marching band has played. Among the Band's other achievements are a tour of Nice, France, six performances at the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade the only High School Band to do so, performances in Hawaii, Canada, the Fiesta and Sun Bowls, Southern California, and the Portland Rose Festival Parade. Notably, the Foothill Marching band has an impressive nearly 240 members, with a stunningly talented Brass section. [1] The Foothill Band has earned over 1,500 awards in its history, with most of the awards being sweepstakes and first place. [2]

FHS was recognized as 2001 California Distinguished School and a 2002 National Blue Ribbon California Nominee.

Controversy

2004

  • A portable classroom was light on fire and literally melted the doors of the surronding classrooms. [3]

2005

  • One of the bathrooms was lit on fire, leading to stricter policies regarding restroom breaks. [citation needed]

2006

  • "Freak dancing" was banned at Foothill school dances after a parent chaperone complained. [4]
