The first novel in the series is Shoofly Pie which was released on July 1, 2003. It was followed by Chop Shop in 2004. Both of them were major hits in the Christian Fiction market, and were combined into a two-book collection in 2009. The third Bug Man novel, entitled First the Dead, was released in 2008, and was just as much of a success then the previous ones.

Before 2008, the author, Tim Downs released two other novels, including PlagueMaker and Head Game, which were also big hits, with PlagueMaker winning a global award. In 2009, the next Bug Man novel, entitled Less Than Dead was released, and was an even bigger hit than the 2008 novel. Only two months passed before the fifth novel in the series, Ends of the Earth, was released, and received a good rating as well.

And finally, the sixth and, as of recently, the last Bug Man novel was released in 2011, and was what critics and readers say the best one in the series. It was entitled Nick of Time. There are rumors spread by the author that a seventh Bug Man novel will be released, but no one really knows for the time being.
