The [Great Northern Railway] M-1 was a American Articulated Mallet built as a 2-6-8-0 in 1910, a Total of 35 Locomotives were built by [Baldwin Locomotive Works],This was an Early Articulated and Worked it's entire Short life on the GN, These Engines were Unusual because of having 2 Uneven sets of Driving Wheels, 1 Set having 6 Driving Wheels in Front, and the Other set in the Back having 8 Driving Wheels, These Engines didn't Last long, Sometimes the Engine even had a Few Difficult problems on Curves and sometimes ended up Derailing. All M-1's were Converted to M-2's and to be Simple-Expansion Cylinders from 1926 to 1927. Most of the M-2's (Previously M-1's) were Dismantled to be Converted to GN O-7's and O-8's which were 2-8-2's, They lasted in Service from 1953 to 1957. No M-1's have Survived into Preservation. None of the O-7's and O-8 2-8-2's that were Once part of the M-1's were Preserved Either. Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).
