People of Indian Origin

Should people of Indian origin be included in notable Indian christians list??. They forsure are of Indian origin, but whether they are Indians or not, Do they have an Indian citizenship is under debate.

Sourcing

Per our biographies of living persons policy and other policies, I have removed all entries from this list except the most clearly religious persons. Even those needs sourcing, but it would have been a bit ridiculous to remove e.g. Mother Teresa from this list. Religion is a controversial topic, and many people are not normally associated with one religion or another, and don't want to be labeled Christian, Sikh, Atheist, Muslim, Hindu, ... To include people on this list, the religion of each individual must be sourced to a reliable source, preferably a source where the person self-identifies as a Christian. The image Image:MotherTeresaTimeMag.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Sourcing (again)

I notice that all entries were readded, beacuse apparently peopole can check the veracity of their religion on their respective articles. Not only does this go against WP:BLP and a number of other policies, which state that every potentially controversial or challenged statement must be sourced at the location it is made, not in another Wikipedia article, but worse, looking at a number of entries, no mention of their religion is made at their articles, meaning that these entries are unsourced here and at the article level. I have again removed all non-religious figures, and will continue to remove all unsourced or badly sourced entries. If people don't self identify as Christians, we shouldn't be doing it either, since it is at worst incorrect and at least irrelevant to the person (sporting achievements are not better or worse for being a Christian, a Hindu, a Sikh, an atheist, a Muslim, or whatever: religiion is in most cases completely irrelevant for the notability of sportspeople and many other people). Fram (talk) 14:29, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since this has already been escalated to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard all further discussions will take place there in order to avoid multiple threads of discussion. --Deepak D'Souza 14:01, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Per the discussion on Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive53#List of Indian Christians, I will again remove all unsourced entries, apart from clergy (which self identify by their profession: sources for these are of course also preferable). Problems with other lists should be discussed on those lists, or on some general forum, but have no bearing on this list, which should follow current policies. Further disagreement with this removal should be taken through the appropriate steps of dispute resolution. Fram (talk) 09:17, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

This article needs an insane amount of clean up. I highly recomend someone who is motivated to format this article properly do so soon. Ridernyc (talk) 14:05, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this article needs massive cleanup. Christian name will not do any justice to this article. Some of them notably Naveen Andrews had criticised religion in the past.

Do we really need this page

Do we really need to have a page like this based on religion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.16.183.90 (talk) 13:36, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Clean-up begun

Please note that per WP:NLIST and WP:BLPCAT, we may not include any living person on this list unless they have self-identified as Christian and we can verify that in a reliable source. Note that "being born in a Christian family" is not enough (people change religion over time). For anyone who is already dead, we don't need self-identification, but we still need a reference. In both cases, the reference doesn't need to be here, but it has to be either here or on the person's WP page. Qwyrxian (talk) 23:37, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have the time to get the sources, but I noticed that the best-known Indian Christians are not there in this list. Here is what comes to mind off the top of my head. It should be fairly easy to find sources for them:
  1. Michael Madhusudan Dutt
  2. Pandita Ramabai
  3. S. K. Rudra
  4. John Mathai
  5. Valerian Gracias
  6. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur
  7. Joachim Alva
  8. Violet Alva
  9. Frank Anthony
  10. Melville de Mellow
  11. Frank Moraes
  12. P. C. Alexander
  13. Simon Pimenta
  14. Abu Abraham
  15. Dom Moraes

Entering Oommen Chandy in list

It is shocking to see "Oommen Chandy", the Kerala chief minister, being removed from the list. Two references were provided and they were even visuals.

Now I am quoting two more references for review. Below are the following: Birth-day-celebration-of-the-chief-minister Puthuppally Pally Perunnal – Oommen Chandy

Above links testify he is a practising Christian and a member of Indian Orthodox Church.

It is interesting to note that you have still kept actors such as "Asin" and "Naveen Andrews" (known more for his sexual acts in off-screen) who have never talked or written about their faith in public.

I suggest you to verify with any Malayali. Thanks!

Arbitrary heading

After long research included 22 names of Indian origin Christians who participated in freedom struggle and 41 names of Army personals with references but on more than 5 occasions between 2015 to 2017 it has been deleted, it is very shocking and surprising . I wonder is it a deliberate ploy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nitish.massey (talkcontribs) 18:13, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is because you are not following our policies - in particular, the information at WP:V. Since yours is a new account but you claim to have been adding the info since 2015, I am curious regarding what other accounts you may have used. - Sitush (talk) 18:17, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
i dont think you need an account to edit the page. I did create the account only to register my protest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nitish.massey (talkcontribs) 18:36, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct that you do not need an account. However, you can't keep reinstating stuff that fails policies such as WP:V and WP:BLP, nor things such as WP:NLIST. It doesn't matter how many accounts and IP addresses you use, it is wrong and it will be reverted. If you persist then other actions can be taken to prevent your abuse of Wikipedia. - Sitush (talk) 18:43, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you can reliably source these recent additions and, preferably, put them into alphabetical order, then that would be good. Please note that if any of them are living then the source must show that they self-identify as Christian. The citations need to be complete - author name (where available), title, year, page number etc. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 18:57, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear sitush most of the wiki pages of persons included in the freedom fighter added by me , contain references that they were Christians. Are you implying that still i have to give the external reference to edit the article. Names like titusji amrit kaur madhusudan das .
