Kegalle is a city in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. It is located on the Colombo - Kandy road. Its 48 miles or 78 Km away from Colombo and 24 Miles or 40 Km away from Kandy which was the last capital of Sri Lanka, before colonization by the British. Kegalle is the Capital City of the Kegalle District and is one of the two districts belonging to Sabaragamuwa province. The other district is Ratanapura which is famous for Gems. Kegalle has a population of 86,581 (2001 census).
