Inês Tânia Lima da Silva, known professionally as Inês Brasil (Portuguese pronunciation: [iˈnejz bɾaˈziw]); born October 25, 1969) is a Brazilian singer, dancer and internet celebrity. Inês became famous in Brazil in late 2012 after publishing an audition video for the 2013 edition of Big Brother Brasil on YouTube, which became viral. Since then, most of the videos she publishes on social media become viral.

In 2015, she released her first studio album, Make Love,[1] which contains original songs, as well as covers of classic MPB songs. Currently, she travels all across Brazil for concerts in clubs, performing around 20 concerts a month.

Biography

Inês was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is of African origin.

In the 90's, before fame, she became a prostitute in Rio de Janeiro. There she met her ex-husband Christian Karp, a German, who took her to live in Germany. The marriage lasted ten years.

Inês lived in Germany for eighteen years, before returning to Brazil, her country of birth.

She has eight brothers and two daughters, Monique Lima Karp, who is also her manager, and Julia.[2]

In addition to her native Portuguese, she is able to speak German fluently.[3]

Career

Career beginning

Inês started her career at age 22 in a club called "Oba-Oba", a place where many shows took place. Her father was a singer and songwriter, and along with her mother and siblings she had a religious upbringing. The first time she sang was in a church. Later, she became a samba teacher in a school located in Rio de Janeiro. At this school she met her ex-husband, who helped her career develop and took her to Europe. He worked in a television channel in Germany and produced all her videos.
