Todd Hazelwood (born 25 September 1995) is an Australian racing car driver. He contested the 2016 Supercars Dunlop Series, finishing 3rd overall for Matt Stone Racing. Todd will also be competing in the 2017 Supercars Dunlop Series again with Matt Stone Racing inside the Holden VF Commodore.[1]
Hazelwood won the Mike Kable Young Gun Award in 2014[2]. Four drivers which have won the award have gone on to win a Supercars Championship.
Racing career
Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship
In 2013 Todd made his debut in the Australian Formula 3 Championship with R-Tek Motorsport. He raced the full season with the team finishing up in 9th place in his rookie season.
Development Series
Todd Hazelwood started his Development Series career differently than most, Todd won the Shannons Supercar Showdown[3] in 2013 with Supercars team Prodrive Racing Australia (then Ford Performance Racing). The team helped field a car for Hazelwood to race in the final round of the 2013 Dunlop V8 Supercar Series, with Minda Motorsport. His weekend however did not go to plan, sadly Todd wasn't able to make the starting grid of either of the races.
Hazelwood came back in 2014 with Matt Stone Racing[4] driving the iSeek backed Ford FG Falcon. Todd turned a few heads in his first year of competing in the series with Hazelwood finishing in the Top 5 four times throughout the season and winning rookie of the year after finishing an impressive 8th. He returned the following year in the same car & team and again impressed many with the young driver finishing 4th overall in the series.
In 2016 Todd had a few changes over the off season including changing to a Holden VF Commodore[5], meanwhile still with Matt Stone Racing it was a big change as it was also a Car of the Future spec car. Todd was immediately quick scoring his first pole position in the opening race of the season and finishing in the top 3 four times throughout the season. He finished a career best 3rd in the series, also winning the privateers cup.
