Laut "Stern" kaufte die Firma von Walters Lebensgefährtin 1988 auf Vancouver Island ein sechs Hektar großes Grundstück und errichtete dort eine imposante Villa. Im Grundbuch mit eingetragen sei eine weitere Deutsche - Renate Pingel, die Mutter von Bodo Hombach. Die 69-Jährige lebe heute in eher bescheidenen Verhältnissen als Rentnerin in Mülheim an der Ruhr. In Kanada sei sie nach Auskunft ihres Mannes, Ernst Pingel, nie gewesen. "Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, wie da der Name meiner Frau auftaucht."
