Can you help me?
What do I have to do in order to use the images, can you help me? Is there a way to do it based upon what you are stating? Do I have to try to locate who owns them and then get permission to use them? And if I do get permission or get denied, how do I submit that I have permission or do not have permission? — Preceding unsigned comment added by R.Duverna (talk • contribs) 20:56, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
- It isn't sufficient to get permission from the owner of an image to use the image. The permission must be a release of the image under a sufficiently free license for use on Wikipedia. Such permission is documented in an OTRS ticket. You might find more answers to your questions in Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright, and Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you have more questions about media copyrights, you can post your questions at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- Whpq (talk) 15:01, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Please help edit an article
Dear Whpq,
Thank you for being such an amazing Wiki user. But right now, I need your help. My extensive research about Bharata Natyam, a traditional South Indian dance, has come forth to show that the Wikipedia page about Bharata Natyam is plagued with errors and misleading information. Perhaps we could work together? Because Bharata Natyam is such an important cultural aspect of India and Tamil Nadu, I am inclined to believe that a faulty and tiresome Wiki page about Bharata Natyam should cease to be left undisturbed. Most of the mistakes are made with misleading words and improper descriptions. I will supply you with links and other resources as soon as I can dredge them up from my database. Please shower your blessings.

Delete as advertising
198.151.216.108 (talk) 01:24, 1 February 2017 (UTC) Hello Whpq,
I left a very similar (well, identical) message for SwisterTwister) I'd appreciate further clarification on why my Wiki submission for Russell Reynolds was denied and moved for deletion. You state that there has been anything to satisfy Wikipedia policies; however, when comparing the citations and the content to a different wiki entry for a company in the same industry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egon_Zehnder the citation quality and language/tone for the Russell Reynolds submission are very comparable. In fact the Russell Reynolds submission contains citations from many of the same sources listed in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egon_Zehnder The citations from the Wall Street Journal are a good example.
Heidrick and Struggles, another very similar firm, is also an approved Wikipedia submission with citations and language very similar to the Russell Reynolds submission: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidrick_%26_Struggles . Using Egon Zehnder and Heidrick and Struggles Wikipedia entries as examples to model the Russell Reynolds citation after, since they are approved which means they satisfy Wikipedia policies, seemed to me like a good idea. Is that not the case, and if so, it would seem as if the approval process is very subjective and not based on any clearly defined standards.
Here is the specific feedback:
There was enough time in 3 reviews to at least give us the needed substance in a convincing article, the article itself has unchanged itself with still only keeping either clear-copied company advertising or advertised business announcements, all is sufficient for deletion.
You mention that the submission was populated using marketing copy taken from elsewhere, if so, I would love to see the source material I used copied. Also mentioned was the timeline elapsed from the first entry until this most recent. I am not being paid to submit this information to Wikipedia - if that was the case, I most likely would have lost my job by now since indeed it has been quite some time. I did add additional text and 6 additional new citations from reputable sources.
I am not trying to be difficult and am more than happy to additional content to this submission if you provide me with additional direction. This exercise is simply meant to be a way to learn my way around Wikipedia. I appreciate your help and guidance.
Thanks, Jose User: JCTH2015

New Page Review - newsletter No.2
- A HUGE backlog
We now have 812 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.
The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.
- Second set of eyes
Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.
- Abuse
This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and
- this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
- this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
- This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.
Coordinator election
Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

File:Dimbokro Nzi River Bridge Red & White Tape.png
I have replaced File:Dimbokro Nzi River Bridge Red & White Tape.png with a diagram drawn with MS Paint.
As far as I know, the use of small portion, say 10%, of a copyright item does not breach copyright. Tabletop (talk) 04:24, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
- A cropped image of a copyrighted file does not transfer the copyright to you, and is not usable in Wikipedia. Replacing it with this drawing is not particularly useful as I see no use for the drawing. -- Whpq (talk) 22:08, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
- What then about "Picture worth a thousand words"? Tabletop (talk) 23:46, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- Why do you think the drawing is useful? --Whpq (talk) 01:00, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
- There is an article, "Barricade tape", which expands the issue of emergency tape. It does not explain the choice of colours, especially the contrast between foreground (tape) and background. The image in question does demonstrate this. Tabletop (talk) 03:23, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
- I fail to see why a drawing is needed when the the barricade article already includes File:Praha-Klánovice, zatopený starý podchod (03).jpg which is red and white barrier tape. -- Whpq (talk) 13:12, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

I would like your opinion
You left a message on my talk page a long time ago . That is how I choose you for this. My user id is mcb133aco and when I am too lazy to login the IP is 184.97.245.52. On 20 Jan I made an edit to the USS Mifflin article as I thought it was written in a redundent manner. It was undone. I did not check for that at the time as I thought I may not have saved the edit(something I manage to do now and again). I redid the edit and had it undone. Now I checked. A user XPennsy22X had done that. I checked other edits I had done and XPennsy22X had undone one other with no stated reason. In addition, my user history prior to contact with XPennsy22X was deleted for the IP 184.97245.52. That was an administrative action and I believe Pennys22 is an administrator As to the other article undo, it was the article on the Seabees, specifically the paragraph on ANTARCTICA. I am a former Seabee that was in Antarctica and I happened to actually work on the Ice runway mentioned in the article. My edits made it read more correctly. I asked Pennsy22 why they returned the article to a state of less accuracy and why the redundacies in the USS Mifflin article? Which got me a SOCK PUPPIT complaint with Wikipedia. Now, a template has appeared at the top of the primary article I have worked on Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133. It is for a legitimate concern of Wikipedia- bare URLs for citations. However, when I went to the other article I had added a reference and link on, the same template was at the top of the page. (the 4th Marine Division) So I checked the history and guess who left them? They are legit in themselves. I corrected 4 or 5 of those citations first thing this morning. When I came back they were gone like it had never been done So, then I did them all and they remain. But, my ability to upload images to Wiki Commons has been restricted for both my user ID and the IP stated. When I click on the upload tab the entire box disappears. So - your thoughts please. I expect you know exactly what to do and how to do it. When that other user mentioned me on their page I received an email stating that my ID had been mentioned on that user's page. So, I added the Xs to the other ID to negate however that notificataion process works as I think that other user is vindictive. I would rather find out from you that I have misjudged than to find out from them. If you check the 133 article history for the IP 185 you will see the deleted user history goes back to Sept 2015. Sorry to bother you with this and thank you for your time. It says to sign with tides. I do not see anyone has used them on your page so if I get wrong sorry. Your opinion
Thank you for the reply. Made me chuckle a bit. Being North of the border one can expect proper Queens English from you.(there's no excuse for me though - mum was from Moosejaw) There were two things you did not express an opinion on and were the the real issues I had beyond being stalked. The first was how a user's history can disappear and the second was the disfunctional upload box for images. Thank you againMcb133aco (talk) 20:54, 11 February 2017 (UTC)mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk)
- I have no idea what your issue with uploading on Commons would be. As for disappearing history, are you certain you have the right article. Perhaps you have Draft:Naval Construction Battalion 133 mixed up with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133? The draft article has been deleted. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 01:21, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
Your Help again
At the very of the top page on the right is bar with user name and ends with Log out. The "Contributions" tab is suppose to have the history of every edit you have ever made on Wikipedia. For my IP 184 Contributions history , it disappeared from the beginning up through the day I ran into the other user. The current history posted only just begins starting last month after that undo of the USS Mifflin edit I made. But, on to something else. As I said before my main Article has been Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133. Only today I was made aware it has 7 Hidden Catagories on it. Would you fill me in on this stuff. Are they something I need to address? Where and when did they become attached? Is this something done by a Bot or a user? Do you know why there is no history posted for these things? Lastly, I think I have addressed the "Bare URLs". Can that "Bare URLs Tag be removed? If it can, does that hidden catagory disappear with it's removal? Just checked and the 133 Article was placed on the "Feb cleanup list" My opinion is I have run into more vindictiveness. I would appreciate your bringing me up to speed on what I do no know. Thank you for your time a patience. Mcb133aco (talk) 04:12, 13 February 2017 (UTC)mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk)
- IP addresses often change so you need to be absolutely sure if which IP address you were using at what time. As I said before, best practice to always log in. Then you can see all your contributions easily. As for hiddeen categories, see WP:Hidden category. These are normally added automatically when improvement tags are added to an article. I expect they would disappear with the removal of the bare URL tag which you should be able to do now as it appears that issue has been cleaned up. As for running into vindictiveness, I really don't see that. Remember to assuem good faith. Tagging of articles for improvement isn't normally vindictiveness. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 16:50, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
