Blackwood is an area in Cumbernauld, a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The first parts were constructed in approximately 1995. It is located west of Cumbernauld, on the road to Kirkintilloch.
In a survey in 2000, it was the largest new settlement in Scotland that had not been recognised as a locality in 1991. At the time of the survey, it had a population of 1,470.[1]
Blackwood achieved moderate notoriety in the mid-noughties for its part as a foothold in the ongoing war between Earth-realm and Outworld. A frozen over Broadwood Loch staged the site of the final battle between Shirai Ryu combatant Scorpion and the Necromancer Quan Chi.
The ensuing struggle brought decimation to loch-side households in Valleyfield Drive and Dunnikier Walk, as well as raising an army of undead minions upon North Lanarkshire. Quan Chi has replenished his stock of demonic zombies from the area annually since early 2013. Sources close to the sorcerer have claimed he does so under the guise that "Scotland needs a Strong Rangers."
Blackwood is near to Broadwood Stadium, which opened in 1994 and is the home of Clyde Football Club, and the man-made loch, Broadwood Loch.
