DSP Media, formerly known as DSP Entertainment, is a Korean entertainment company, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea that was established in 1991 by Lee HoYeon. DSP Media entered the K-pop scene with the success of 90′s idol groups Sechs Kies and Fin.K.L.

Today, DSP Media is an all around entertainment company responsible for music production, marketing, talent agent and management, music distribution and publishing. The agency currently is home to K-pop recording artists such as Oh Jong-hyuk, A-JAX, APRIL, Heo Young-ji, Kasper and K.A.R.D, while home to actors such as Song Chan-ik, Chae Bae-young, Lee Hyun-joo and Cho Shi-yoon.

History

DSP Media was originally named DaeSung Enterprise when it first went into business in 1991. In fact, the company went through four name changes. In 1999, the company was renamed DSP Entertainment. In 2008, with the successful expansion in the entertainment industry, DSP Entertainment was rebranded as DSP Media.

DaeSung Enterprise was founded in September 1991 by Lee HoYeon to provide entertainers to the public. One of their first Korean music groups was Firetruck (소방차). The group was a hit and is still loved by the older Koreans.

In February 1999, with the success of star groups like Sechs Kies and FIN.K.L., the company went through legal actions to rename itself to DSP Entertainment.

After merging with Hoshin Textile Company (호신섬유) in March 2006, DSP Entertainment was renamed to DSP Enti.

In September 2008, DSP Enti was renamed as DSP Media. By this time, the company became renowned for its success in the kpop music, Korean drama and TV show production industries.

  • 1 Fin.K.L was formed in 1998. In 2006, the members parted with DSP Media. Although there is continued speculation on the status of the group, Fin.K.L has not officially broken up as a group.
  • 2 Click-B was formed in 1999. Ha Hyun-gon, Yoo Ho-suk and No Min-hyuk left the group in 2002. They later promoted as a four member group until 2004 and as a three member group in 2006, although there is continued speculation on the status of the group, Click-B has not officially broken up as a group. They reunited as a seven member group with the release of two digital single in 2011, and then reunited again in 2015 releasing a single album and holding a concert.
  • 2 Puretty was formed in 2012. They were disbanded in 2014. Jeon Somin, Yoon Chaekyung and Cho Shiyoon stayed with DSP Media. Jeon Somin re-debuted with April in 2015, but left the group in November the same year and debuted with K.A.R.D in December 2016. Yoon Chaekyung joined April in November 2016. Cho Shiyoon was later confirmed to pursue an acting career in November 2016.
  • 3 Kara was formed in 2007. In 2016, Park Gyu-ri's, Han Seung-yeon's and Goo Ha-ra's contracts expired. Heo Young-ji, the newest member, who joined to the group in 2014, remained as a solo artist.[5] Although there is continued speculation on the status of the group, members comfirmed that Kara has not broken up as a group.[6][7]
  • 5 Park Sungmin, Seo Jaehyung and Moon Jihoo debuted in 2012 as members of A-JAX. Seo Jaehyung left the group after terminating his contract in early 2016 while Park Sungmin and Moon Jihoo left the group in early 2016 and remained as solo artist under DSP Media. Park and Moon parted with DSP Media later in the same year.
  • 6 Kasper debuted in 2014 as a member of Play the Siren, but left the group in 2016. She was best known an Unpretty Rapstar 2 contestant in 2015.[8]
  • 7 Rainbow was formed in 2009. They were disbanded in 2016. The last member Ji Sook has left DSP Media in 2017.
  • 8 Lee Hyun-joo debuted in 2015 as a member of APRIL. She took a temporary hiatus from the group in May 2016 due to health issues and left the group in October 2016 to pursue an acting career.
