Dr. Hippolytus Anthony Kunnunkal, OFM,Cap. was first Indian Prefect Apostolic and First Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar.

Life

He was Born on 14th of March 1921 in Alappuzha city in the state of Kerala, India.

Religious Life

He was Ordained a Priest on 11th of April 1951. He was a missionary priest belonging to Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. He was Appointed Prefect Apostolic of Jammu and Kashmir on 11th of November 1978.

Bishop of Jammu-Srinagar

He was Consecrated Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Jammu–Srinagar on 29th of June 1986. While bishop of Jammu Sringar, he started an initiative to translate the Bible into Kashmiri, which would be completed in 2011, after his death.[1]He Died on 09th of August 2008.[2][3]
