Hugh Charles Welsh is an American lawyer and businessman who currently serves as the President and General Counsel for DSM North America.
Career and Current Function
Graduating from Seton Hall University's School of Law in 1993, Hugh Welsh has over twenty years of professional law experience spanning across different functional departments. Before beginning his career in the BLANK DEPARTMENT at DSM, he worked for both McCarter & English, LLP and American Standard Companies where he served as Associate General Counsel. During the course of his 20 year career Hugh has played a leading role in addressing legal, regulatory, political, and general industry issues in the nutrition, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food, polymer and resins markets. Since 2007 he has worked at DSM North America's Parsippany location where he currently serves as President & General Counsel.[1]
As of 2017, Hugh serves on several DSM global and regional management teams. During his career at DSM his responsibilities have ranged from legal, government affairs, corporate communications, financial and HR and other shared services, corporate partnerships and DSM’s sustainability, inclusion and diversity initiatives in the North American region. He is the executive sponsor of DSM’s Women’s Inspired Network and Mentoring Programs. Hugh’s industry knowledge and innovative approach to corporate engagement with external stakeholders has made him a valuable contributor to several trade associations and a sought after speaker in the fields of public/private partnership, sustainability and government affairs, and issues of diversity and inclusion.
