Potato wedges are _quartered_ potatoes??? Really? That's a heck of a lot of potato in each wedge. I've never seen that in Canada, but since it's mentioned in the Australia section, and I haven't been to Australia, I haven't edited it.... but I am definitely question its veracity. A wedge resulting from a quartered potato will have a 90-degree angle at the cut... if that's truly the case with Australian wedges I'd appreciate it if someone confirms. Or, better yet, cites. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.254.2.209 (talk) 22:49, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Should this article include uncited information?
This article has been tagged since January 2010 for having uncited information. Should the uncited information be deleted, or should be it be kept in the article? Logical Cowboy (talk) 01:26, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Most of the uncited material seems reliable. A simple search on google will probably confirm most, if not all, content if one is bothered to do so. The sources might not be viewed as "reliable" sources though as this type of content wouldn't often be treated in official cooking books or scientific research but rather on blogs and other "casual" media. - Takeaway (talk) 01:46, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Comment - The WP:Verifiability requirement is pretty clear: citations are needed for all material in the encyclopedia. Removing uncited material is covered by WP:BURDEN and WP:CHALLENGED. Generally, a notice should be added to the Talk page (identifying the material proposed for deletion), then wait a couple of weeks before deleting. Also, notify a project, like the Food Project. Best, of course, is to do some research and supply citations. --Noleander (talk) 14:42, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Comment and an aside Regarding the RFC: Any uncited info should either be cited or deleted. Remaining uncited in the article is not really an option...so I'd suggest someone boldly removing the uncited info, and let the onus be on those who want to reinsert to info to include citations.
That being said, I don't think this article really "knows" what it is supposed to be about. It's not really a list of french fry accompaniments, is it? It's really an alphabetic list of countries, and how they generally serve the potato dish commonly known as "french fries", sprinkled with other tidbits of info, such as local variants of the "fry shack." So, if this article is to remain and grow in its current form, I suggest a re-name to something like List of common french fry serving customs by region or something similar.
Conversely, if the article is to take on the implication of the title, then it should be a true list, arranged alphabetically by accompaniments, something like: -Chilli & cheese, on top (Canada </ref>, Mexico </ref>, U.S.</ref>) -Ketchup, on top or on the side (Canada</ref>, U.S.</ref>) -Mayonnaise, on the side (Belgium</ref>) -Steak, as a side dish (France </ref>) -So forth and so on. You get the idea. Quinn ✹SUNSHINE 18:58, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- Policy is clear: WP:BURDEN. If the material has been challenged, then a reliable source MUST be provided before the content can be returned to the article. -- The Red Pen of Doom 23:26, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- I already restored a part of the content with references. Please help restore the rest then. - Takeaway (talk) 23:31, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Ketchup sales
I have searched for a replacement ref for the claim that "consumption of restaurant fries drives ketchup sales" seeing as the original link is dead. Not being able to find one, I have removed the claim as it is questionable. Please source it before re-adding it. Thank you. Harry the Dog WOOF 20:02, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- A new ref has been found so the claim is back. Harry the Dog WOOF 20:10, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
