Background
Monroe High School, as it was known at that time, was founded in 1955. For the first academic year, classes were held in the Immaculate Conception Church basement for the nine freshman students. The next year, another class was added when the new modern school building was opened adjacent to the grade school. Each year another class was added until the class of 1959, comprising six by that time, graduated. To present day 2017, Monroe Catholic Highschool has grown both to offer as well as an elementary school, but also has grown on the high school side. Monroe has become very well known as well for their success in many sports! Including back to back state championships for hockey, going undefeated! As well for basketball, volleyball, and this year 2017, welcomes 8 swimmers to the swim team! Monroe has a ton to offer for students, this year a normal class size for this year's freshman is about 24 kids! Freshman take classes from theology to criminal justice! Starting in sophomore they will then start to learn a language and much more! [2] This year[when?] the school has 26 seniors as its graduating class. It is the smallest school in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
