Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, later renamed Thomas and Friends is a children's television series, based on the Railway Series, and which was first broadcast in 1984. Season 10 premiered on 2nd September 2006. Template:Spoiler

Episodes

1. Follow that Flour

Thomas arrives at the wharf, where the standard-gauge and narrow-gauge lines meet. He met James there, and was supposed to collect James' truck of flour. But Thomas bumps the flour truck hard, causing the door of the truck to break! Thomas tries to play hide-and-seek with it, but James kept finding him because the flour created a path along the track. Eventually, Thomas realized this, and must collect more flour, but the mill is closed, and the trucks are all empty. Dusty Dave, however, points out one last full truck of flour. Together, Thomas and James move the other trucks out of the way and deliver the flour in time for the party.

2. A Smooth Ride

Sir Handel returns to the narrow-gauge railway after being at the stone quarry all summer. He is taking some apples and he must be careful not to bruise them. But Sir Handel has a problem. He cannot make it up the hill, being an old engine, and asks Peter Sam to help him. Hiding the fact that he is not feeling well, he claims that he delivered the apples on his own. The same happens when he needs Duncan's help while taking some sheep. Sir Handel is doing a good job of keeping his secret, but soon he has to take Mr. and Mrs. Percival on a picnic at the top of a mountain. Once he again, he rattles and rocks, and, at first, Mr. Percival wants to send him back to the stone quarry, the place for bumpy engines. But instead he brings a repairman to fix Sir Handel and restore his title as the smoothest engine on the narrow-gauge railway!

3. Thomas and the Jet Plane

Thomas is very proud of being a steam engine. On his way to collect the children from the airport for their picnic, he meets Jeremy, a new jet plane. Jeremy boasts of all the good qualities of being a jet plane. Thomas isn't very proud of being a steam engine anymore. Several things that hold him up on his way, like signals and cows on the line, make him want to be a jet plane even more. But when Jeremy spots a storm on the way, the picnic is canceled! But, as he's taking them back, Thomas has an idea for where to relocate the picnic: Jeremy's hangar! Sir Topham Hatt congratulates both Jeremy and Thomas, and Thomas realizes that being a steam engine has its good qualities, too!

4. Percy and the Carnival

The carnival returns to Sodor, and no engine wants to help out more than Percy. But Sir Topham Hatt gives all the the carnival jobs to the other engines. Percy's job is to deliver coal. As the other engines pass him with their important loads, Percy has an idea. He decides to leave his coal behind and try to help the other engines. But none of them need help - until they all run out of coal! Percy rushes back to where he left his trucks, and gets it to the others so they can refill. The carnival goes underway, and Percy realizes that coal delivery is important as well.

5. The Green Controller

Percy is alone at Tidmouth until Lady Hatt arrives. She explains that Sir Topham Hatt has lost his voice, and she ives Percy the important task of telling the engines their jobs. But he has trouble remebering the orders. He tells Gordon to pull slow cars when he should be pulling china slowly. He tells James to be repainted as a bee, when he should be pushing coal cars 'as busy as a bee'. Finally, he tells Toby to pull the Express when he should be taking vacationers to the Scottish Castle as fast as the Express. The children soon laugh at the engines, and Percy realizes his mistakes. Thomas offers help, and he leads Percy to remembering the proper tasks. Sir Topham Hatt soon 'finds' his voice, and Percy never wants him to lose it again!

6. Duncan Drops a Clanger

The county fair comes, and all the narrow-gauge engines are busy. Rusty's taking flowers, Peter Sam is taking pumpkins, and Duncan is taking the clock tower bell to the polishers. On his way, he notices the sounds his wheels make, and simply goes back and forth listening carelessly, despite Rheneas' warning to be on time. Duncan is very late, but soon falls in love with the bell's chime. He should be going slowly, but he rocks to make the bell keep chiming. The others all warn him, but without success. Finally, Duncan hits a very bumpy spot. The bell tumbles down the hill. Duncan thinks the bell is gone forever until he hears a faint chime in the background...it's the bell! He eventually finds it hanging from the branch of a tree, and rolls underneath just in time to catch it. Duncan gets the bell safely to the polishers in time for it to return to its home on the clock tower, where Duncan still thinks it's grand!

7. Thomas' Tricky Tree

Thomas is sent to the Wharf to collect a Christmas tree from Sir Handel. Thomas tells Duncan and Peter Sam what he’s looking for and they tease Thomas for not knowing what a Christmas tree looks like. This makes Thomas cross. Determined to prove himself, Thomas refuses any help from any other engines, even Sir Handel! Thomas sees something long and pointy under a tarpaulin on a flat-bed and he decides it must be the Christmas tree. Thomas races off with the load, but Thomas has to brake hard sending his load into the canal – it’s not a tree, its some telegraph poles. Thomas realises that he does need help after all and heads off to find Sir Handel. He apologises for being silly, and together they find the tree for Thomas to take to Sir Topham Hatt.

8. Toby's Afternoon Off

Toby loves to go to the farm to see the animals and he plans to spend his afternoon off doing just that. When Sir Topham Hatt gives Toby three unexpected specials, he worries that he won’t have time to visit the farm after all. He asks his friends to help him, but each of them seems too busy to help. This makes Toby sad, he thought friends were supposed to help each other. When one of his special deliveries is delayed until morning due to rough seas, Toby is delighted, he’ll be able to get to the farm after all. On his way, he sees Henry who has broken down. Henry explains that all the other engines were helping him. They had been helping a friend after all. Toby offers to help Henry too. And even though it means missing the farm, he doesn’t mind!

9. It's Good to be Gordon

Gordon needs to pull the express one more time to set a record. He is determined not to let anything stand in his way. So when he's accidentally given Henry's special coal, he doesn't stop. He hopes it'll make him go faster. Henry bravely puffs on with his ordinary coal. While Henry struggles with a clogged firebox, Gordon puffs across the island. Eventually Gordon's conscience gets the better of him and, just as he's about to finish his journey, he stops and puffs back to Henry. Gordon and Henry swap coal tenders. Gordon is very sorry to have taken Henry's coal, while Henry is sorry that Gordon couldn't set his record.

10. Seeing the Sights

Thomas is taking some holidaymakers on a sightseeing trip around the Island of Sodor. Gordon sniffs that he would be much faster, so Thomas sets out to prove that he's wrong. He races from location to location so fast that he leaves holidaymakers behind at each place! Bertie the bus sees what is happening and chases after Thomas, collecting the stranded passengers as he goes. When Thomas realises what he's done he takes the holidaymakers to the seaside and stays there, it's much better to see one place properly, than to see lots in a hurry!

According to a press release from a Hit Entertainment press site, the following are characters to be introduced in the upcoming series, but the episodes featuring them have yet to be aired:

  • Fearless Freddie (a warhorse narrow-gauge engine, who as a younger engine in years gone by was the daredevil of the hills)
  • Rosie (a new purple tank engine who idolizes Thomas)
  • Rocky (a railway breakdown crane who tries to be everyone's friend)

  • The Lake (A Smooth Ride)

Trivia

  • Rosie is Sodor's third female steam engine, after Emily and Molly from earlier series.
  • Jeremy is the first new named aircraft since Tiger Moth of Season 5. He is also the third talking character without the traditional clay face-mask (after Harold and Caroline), and the first aircraft with moving eyes.
  • Rocky is the fifth named crane in the series (including vehicles with an attached crane), after Cranky, Kelly from the Pack, Harvey and Butch from earlier series. He is, however, the first breakdown crane that actually interacts with other characters.
  • Sir Handel appears for the first time since Season 4.
  • Spencer appears for the first time since Season 8.
  • The Chinese Dragon appears for the first time since Season 3.
  • This season is the first to include Places around Sodor, a new inter-story segment that features stock footage from Seasons 8 and 9.
  • The airport from Calling All Engines returns, being another effect the movie has had on the series. (The first being the seventh space of Tidmouth Sheds)
  • The interactive intermissions between episodes feature new footage cameo appearances of Terence, and Bulgy (in his old red coat of paint)
  • Harold's eyes move for the first time since the series began
