The commemorative coins of Austria are minted by the Münze Österreich. The first commemorative coin in euro has been minted by Austria in 2002 : the 5 euro silver for the 250 th year of the Vienna Zoo.

- 2002 : the 250th anniversary of the zoo in the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna(1752-2002) designed by Helmut Andexlinger and Herbert Waehner. The coin is struck from the first by this nine sided coin, symbolic for the nine federal provinces of Austria. The obverse shows the Emperor's Pavilion surrounded by a variety of animals from the zoo. On the reverse, the coats-of arms encircle the denomination "5" with the inscription "Republik Österreich" and "Euro". Mintage : uncirculated 100 000 coins circulation 500 000 coins

- 2002 - Austria Through the Ages - Renaissance of the designers Thomas Pesendorfer and Herbert Wähner. The obverse shows a portrait of Ferdinand I of Germany , brother of the famous Emperor Charles V. The reverse of the coin shows the Swiss Gate in the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.
- 2002 - Austria Through the Ages - Baroque of the designer Andreas Zanaschka and Thomas Pesendorfer. The obverse displays a portrait of Prince Eugene of Savoy. The reverse shows the Grand Staircase in the town palace of Prince Eugene, now the Austrian Ministry of Finance
- 2003 - Austria Through the Ages - Biedermeier of the designer Andreas Zanaschka. The obverse shows a portrait of the famous and controversial statesman, Prince Metternich, the reverse shows an early steam locomotive (the AJAX) on Austria's first railway line, the Kaiser Ferdinand's Nordbahn.
