Pehredaar Piya Ki (English: Caretaker of the lover) is an Indian television serial. The show is about an 18 year old girl marrying a 9 year old rich boy so she can become his caretaker and protect him from his evil family who are after his property. The Sony Tv Suddenly pull the plug of the show on 25August without getting konw by anyone. As they didnt telecast the episode on 28 August ie Monday but the show transfered to Digital platform ie Sony LIV.[1] It is being broadcast on Sony LIV, and stars Tejaswi Prakash and Affan Khan in the lead roles.[2]

Plot

An 18 year old girl Diya gets engaged to Abhay. However on her wedding day, tragedy strikes and circumstances compel her to marry her dad's best friend, Maan Singh's son Ratan Singh who is 9 years old and the only heir of the Maan Singh Heritage Group of Hotels. Recalling how Maan Singh saved her life when she was younger, she accepts his proposal and marries his son inorder to protect him from his evil family. Before dying, Maan Singh tells her family that when his son turns 21, they should remarry and make their wedding legal. Diya gives up her happiness and accepts the dying man's last wish by marrying his son and becoming his caretaker. After their wedding, Ratan supports Diya in every step of the way and even stands against his family when they try to insult her.

New Season

Leap

The show will take a 12 year leap on October 17, 2017. [3] After the leap, Ratan will be 21 years old who will be returning home after completing his studies from abroad and Diya will be 30 years old.

Controversy

The show has courted a massive controversy as it depicts a 9 year old boy following and wooing a girl who is double his age and showing scenes wherein the 9 year old boy is caressing the girl, filling vermillion on her forehead, repeated addressing her as "wife". The viewers found it objectionable that a social-evil which still destroys lives and traumatizes many children was being shown as a cute friendship and glorifying child marriage. An online petition to ban the show was initiated which was signed by more than 1 lakh people who believed that the show was promoting child marriage. The case reached the BCCC, who have asked the makers of the show to change the time slot so the kids shouldn't watch it and air it to 10pm slot along with a disclaimer message that it does not promote child marriage. [4] Another online petition was started by supporters against the ban, to stop targeting the show, which was signed by over 13 thousand supporters so far. [5][6]

The makers of the show, Sumeet Hukamchand Mittal and Shashi Mittal defended their show by clearing the controversies related to the show by calling a press conference at a suburban hotel in Mumbai.[7] On August 19, a new promo was released by Sony, that starting from 22nd august, the show will air at 10:30 pm IST.[8]

As of August 28, 2017 - The producers of the serial have stopped shooting for episodes of the show. The decision was reportedly taken as the producers are awaiting a decision by Mininstry of information and Broadcasting following reports that the government might scrap the show.

On August 29, Hindustan Times has reported that, Sony has taken the show off air, leaving the stars and fans shocked. The news was confirmed by Sony TV that shifting a good show to late night slot was unfair, so they have decided to end the show, promising to return with a new season soon.
